I was away with work for a week and when I got back my girl was snotty and had a bad cough, She's snotting up globs of greenish slime and because we've recently escaped from a yard with strangles I assumed he worst even though her blood test results came back clear after isolation. I've since had her swab tested to check for strangles and that's come back negative.

My vet doesn't think she has equine flu because she's too well in herself and happy eating, drinking, pooing and weeing. I'm leaving her out during the day, bringing her in at night she has nice warm rugs on soaked hay on the floor and a small feed with warm sugarbeet and has a sprinkling of dust extracted shavings on rubber matting.

I'm trying to get hold on my vet to see what they suggest but thought I would post in case anyone had experienced similar? Vet said it seems like she just has a cold but she's now coughing up slime as well as snotting it out so I'm concerned she's not improving.

Well that sounds delightful :frown3::eek3:, no advice really but if she's happy, eating, pooing, etc then maybe try not to be too worried, as your vets don't seem to concerned?

Haha it is! This morning there was slime all over the door outside her stable I just feel like I should be doing something to help. I will try not to worry too much though haha :)

Eww not nice, it's rubbish not being able to do anthing! Topaz had a virus a few years ago, high temp meant she was feeling very poorly, the vet actually told mum to stop staring at her and go home as there was nothing staring at her would solve :D.

I'm thinking its either a sinus infection or bad tooth involved. The sinuses may need to be flushed out or further exploring by the vet is necessary....maybe antibiotics. (if all this hasn't been explored already) The color green, yellow or black immediately raises my hackles on any matter. I think the vet needs to see her again...that would be how you could help. The cause needs to be found and treated. Believe me, she is not really happily doing anything when she is like this, she'll be hiding it.
So, yes, you can do something...the most important thing....you are the only one that really loves her and the only one that can advocate for her. If you find the vet not proactive enough to satisfy you, then get another and a 2nd opinion, whatever it takes. Stubbornly advocate for her and resolve it. There's where your "real" power is to do something. Best wishes.

Thanks missyclare it was the colour that worried me as I know it's a sign of infection I've spent the day pushing to speak to my vet so like you say if they won't come out I will get a second opinion xx
