I'm sorry if you're bored by my posts already but some folks asked me to keep them updated so that's what I'm doing!
Took Copper for a wander down the road today, he was good as gold most of the way although started neighing for buddies about 10 minutes out and some randoms neighed back- he didn't get wound up, they just had rather a long shouty chat. Walked up the road, trotted a bit, slowed him down with my seat and rising as the bit doesn't do much....
Took him into a field with a grassy headland around it to see how he would react, trotted and got a little strong as he thought it was gallops but I walked him and gave him plenty of reassurance, he got a bit dancy at the top of the field as we turned down the far side so I trotted him (Wussed out at the "ride him thorough it" idea) and he was fine. Was desperate for a canter but I was strong and decided to be sensible for once and kept it relaxed. Walked him through a narrow track in the hedge (perfectly wide enough for a horse but he thought he was the size of a house and couldn't possibly fit) he didn't throw his toys out of the pram just snorted and looked very pretty.
On the way home I did lots of transitions and leg yielding (Yes, he leg yeilds!!) and a little neck reining and using my body to turn him. He listens well and will stand if asked after a little bit of a teenage strop (standing is BORING!) and he did some trot to halt and halt to trot. More neighing on the way home and a little antsy in places but kept the correct amount of feet on the floor at any one time so that was nice.
He seems completely at a loss as to what the bit is for however, he's not strong but he does not yeild to the bit at all, not for turning, asking to soften, anything. I'm gonna get his teefies done asap and then maybe some more "schooling" in circles and that. All in all, I'm pleased with him and so far so good!
Blueberry cheesecake anyone?
