Went to Holmfirth horse sales today!

and good grief what a sight! (have never been before as you can probably tell!)
Full of chavs and scruffy old men! the state of some of the horses was absolutely dreadful - in a horrible state!
Some young boy was sat on top of the entrance gate to the ring and whipping the ponies/horses when they came in the ring (for absolutely no reason did they need whipping!)

Ive been a few times there as you can sometimes get a good bargain in the tack auction, there are a few sorry sights there, and it would be so easy to want to rescue so many horse/ponies you feel so sorry for them.

Yes, I would agree about tack, I got a grazing muzzle for a fiver

My Grandad brought home so many waifs and strays from horse sales and I must admit it was a fantastic feeling to bring them on and take them from malnourished and unloved to fit, healthy and spoilt rotten!

My aunt buys loads of horses from there because she feels sorry for them- being passed from pillar to post.
I'm not really a "awwww poor thing" kind of person, but I find it disgusting seeing young boys in KAPPA trackies beating the shite out of them on that gravel track- I would love for the ponies to ditch them- reminds me of Appleby.

thats the 'bad; side of sales unfortunatly.....but the good side is amazing lol......we got a 'genuine' 7yo british warmblood done everything for 1300 and we are selling her after just a month of buying for 2700...profit or what?!?!.....we buy most of our investments from sales and we have been succesful so far in selling and bringing on...you have to ask as many questions as possible tho....tack wise...bargains!!!...we bought 3 showing saddles.....brown WH saddle for £55, black close contact for £45!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......i know arnt i lucky!..and a GP black new leather for £25......arnt we jammy

I often wonder where the tack at such cheap prices has come from at Holmfirth. I fully expect that our neighbours saddle and bridle which 'walked' from her locked tackroom ended up there

that wouldnt surprise me in the slightest there has been alot of tack thefts in our area over the past few months
