And I was pleased to see so many empty kennels! I've never been to a rescue centre before and was kind of expecting every kennel to be full of sad dogs desperate for a home.
There were some real sweet dogs there and wish I could take them all home :(

I would love to go. Were there all sorts there? Or all staffs and longdogs? I tried to get my m-in-law to go when she last got a dog, I will make it one day. Was it very depressing?

Mainly staffies & only one lurcher. A couple small yorkie/ chihuahua types & mastiff types too. I think there were more kennels but a lot of it was sectioned off with 'staff only' signs. And some of the dogs weren't in their kennels but spending time in the office or quiet rooms or on walks. And lots of the dogs that I saw had 'we've been homed' signs on their doors which was lovely! :)

I personally found it sad, but not wanting to cry your eyes out sad. There were staff walking round and spending time with dogs in kennels/ taking on walks & some doing training & there were only two or three dogs that looked utterly depressed but the others just wanted cuddles! However I work at a boarding kennels (different to a rescue I know) so am used to seeing dogs sad/ feeling a bit lost or scared.

I've been looking at the Battersea dogs available for rehoming on-line......... so desperate to find something for our little terrier boy as we lost his life-companion last week, very sadly :(

There doesn't seem to be anything either my local area, i.e. Devon area, or even the neighbouring counties, in any of the rescues, which would suit us! Hence my looking at the Battersea website.

I was under the impression that after Xmas these places were inundated by pups which people had either given to others, or taken on, over the festive season, and that it would be a simple matter to find a pup, medium size, bitch (NOT a staffie or Rottie X!!), under about 4 months old??? Nope! There is NOTHING in any of the rescues I've tried, absolutely zilch.

But what IS disturbing is the few adverts that appear under the guise of "my little boy/girl has developed an allergy to the dog hence the need to rehome". This is for dogs about the year old or less mark, living in a town or city (so obviously got out of hand??) - and the current owner is asking a price for them of about £175 'ish rather than doing the decent thing and sending them to the rescue centres where they could be given a good home (and spayed), with support given to the new owners :(

There's money to be made obviously......

Well if they've paid a good whack for the dog they want to get something back ! And perhaps they are under the impression that the rescue centres would be full?

MJR2BT, you could always just buy a pup, and then short circuit the rescue system, by taking delivery of it, before it goes elsewhere, and ends up needing re-homing! Others won't see the logic in this, but I do! :)

Alec.

Thanks Alec........ yup there is defo wisdom and indeed logic, or a sort, in what you suggest; its just that the "Christian" (????) in me somewhere would like to give a poor rescue dog a good home. Our last dog was a rescue and she was a real sweetie, tho' I know we were very fortunate and that she was truly an exceptional dog...........

I took little terrier bloke to the local rescue centre last Friday; to meet his new "bride". Trouble was the stroppy little git wasn't exactly in Helpful mode, and it all ended a bit t!ts up unfortunately, with him growling and showing his gums at bride-to-be, she (poor lass) didn't know what else to do so reciprocated in kind, .......... hence rescue centre manageress suggesting we might be better going for a pup :)

We'll see how we go. Are just waiting for the "right" dog at the mo. He's a very special little man and deserves the best.

I believe a lot of the rescues have a waiting list for pups so they are rehomed before they even come in, if you see what I mean. Plus I've found that pups do go really quickly if they do make it to kennels. Took us 6 months to find what we were after - he was worth the wait.

We got our BC at 5 months old from an ad which said being rehomed as son was allergic (only allergic to dog in house apparently as was rolling round field with dog when we walked it) Paid £200 and the vaccination card never appeared as promised (not suprised). Lovely lady selling her had kept her in a cage in spare room with door shut at all times when in house and supposedly took dog twice a day to yard she was a real piece of work and it wasn't the first time she had got rid of a dog!

We tried every rescue for a BC or mostly BC under a year old but there was literally nothing. If we wanted a staffy or staffy cross there were loads! Whereas 14 years ago when we got first BC from rescue centre the majority of dogs in rescue seemed to be BC!

Must admit didn't want to buy a puppy for various reasons so options were limited.

MiJods the right dog will 'find you' I'm sure :) We have a terrier bitch who is, shall we say, a difficult character.. We were actively looking for another dog but there was nothing suitable. Took her to meet a rescue dog and she hated her! But then on fb I saw a friend of a friend was giving away their terrier x as they didn't have the time for him. Went to see him, took Ruby and she loved him. Took him away the same day and he's settled in amazingly and we can't imagine not having him now! You'll know when you find the 'right' dog!
