Went to see whistlejacket today

Popped down to the local art gallery in town today after reading they had a big george stubbs display on and it was absolutely beautiful! Really didnt realise the whistlejacket painting was so big and looking at his anatomy studies of the horse was amazing. If anyone is in the york area I recommend to go have a look, its free to go in

Whereabouts in York is it? I used to have quite a few Stubbs prints and I got a massive framed one for my 21st birthday. I am very tempted to go along and have a look.

The york art gallery, just round the corner from the minster at the top of gillygate

Mum and I plan on coming down to see this painting while its at York. Mum's seen it many times before in the gallery in London but I've never seen it - only pictures in books. Apparently - according to my Stubbs book - when Whistlejacket saw his painting it was so lifelike that he thought it was another stallion and went nuts!

I love it, it glows and could have been painted yesterday. I have a big print of it on my bedroom wall much to OH's disgust, lol

I saw it at the National Gallery a couple of years ago. Awesome.
