There were some shockers in the ring today,and some of the behaivour of the owners was awful i felt so bad for some of the horses.
Have to say a fair few of them made how they were feeling perfectly clear which did make me feel a little better

I just sat and cringed at most of what went through and the people bidding on them i think alot of info had been tweaked and not much actually brought up.I had a very experienced horseman sat behind me who i know well too and he confirmed what i thought which made me feel better so i was not been a complete sceptic.
Its the first time i have come away from my local sales shaking my head and still thinking about it hours after.
 
We have bought a fair few from York. One was totally drugged up to the eye balls and can not be ridden but we still have her

It wasn't what I was expecting from york... Some really nice horses went through though.. some owners weren't so nice... but as you said, some horses made their thoughts very clear!

P.S. Were ALL those dealers related? they all looked the SAME... (fat with porno tashes.. the real hardcore ones wearing sh!tflickers)

There was one little mare i felt sorry for as she had only been backed 3 weeks never seen anything then taken there with stallions kicking off,horses throwing themselves over,people falling off,she was so scared and nervous.

Had a discussion lets call it with the owner,and then the autionere had to keep telling the travellers off for the methods of handling the horses in the ring

Yeah the ones putting up a fight were giving us all a bit of chuckle i think,yeah they were travellers the ones who kept getting told off.

We shall have to see what the next one is like,the worst bit was when they put the 3 horses together in the alleyway and that massive fight started.
Im not sure if you guys had got up and gone to the tack section at that point but 2 bays and a grey kicking the daylights out of each other and the crowd.
One of the bays was next in and it had taken a double barrel to the chest and came in lame.
 
I think we had gone by that point, came back a bit later for a good watch though! Picked up a few things from the tack section, so very pleased..

I'm surprised that it was the horses not the pikeys! (is that still classed as racist? :O )

The auctioneer did right tbh... they knew they couldn't buy their fags and caravan insurance if their horses didn't sell..

Poor little bay, hope it was OK!

It was one of the worst horse fights i have ever seen it was awful then the crowd was pulling kids out of the way etc.
Hense why i dont take james to the sale,so many parents take the kiddies there and dont even keep an eye on them well serves them right for been stood in the alley to the ring really.
 
Yeah, its a busy place, no place for kids..

You know what I mean.. I was surprised at the amount of people smoking inside despite the signs.. It didn't bother me, but I just couldn't help but notice!

Yeah, I took your advice and didn't stay in the front row, not for too long anyway! It's worrying how little control these people have of horses though, even though I doubt I could break up a fight between horses... =/

I wanted to see if the chestnut with the clearly knackered back that was flipping itself over outside got put through or not.

I doubt they would have done by the ammount of people who saw it and made it clear to her it needed a back person and not the sales.
 
Sticks

they were carrying sticks to give the horses a whack not crops but long peices of wood,hense why they got told off on more than one occasion.

the one with the horse rearing was having a go at everyone she overheard so she got a torrade back.

That poor horse was clearly in alot of pain the second any ammount of pressure was put on its back you could see it in its eyes and it was just going vertical.
It had loads of pads under the saddle too which she reckoned were just for comfort and not to compensate for a very sore back.
 
I don't think i would like it at the sales. I think it would upset me to see some of the things you mention. I don't ike to see rough handling and the little mare that was scared would have upset me too

Ah, yes, the cheap persons back specialist, pad it! In some cases I guess it works, but not with a bad back..

I wanted to be there!!! Did that woman set her "Chinese Crested Power Puff" on her? Its a fighting dog you know *giggles*

Well the owner [also a traveller] overheard me saying to my friend the little mare should not have been there so she tried mouthing off but she did not bank on her been given it back.
Im all for getting them used to busy enviroments but why not get it used to other horses passing it at home,take it to a quite show where there is no stressing horses and while it was been ridden there was horses rearing,people coming off you name it.
It was as simple as i dont think that baby horse should have seen nothing then be taken to a sale,and she clearly did not like that tough sh!t im afraid i have different methods of introducing horses to been passed and busy places after backing.
 
I have to add though sarah i have been going to my local sale for longer than i can remember and this si the first time i have been really shocked at anything there.

He was a really cool dog! I wonder if his owner heard you "talking" she might think your a bit weird.. giving someone what for one minute.. talking to her dog like a baby the other!

Horse with bad back,if owner cant/wont treat it or find a horse rescue to take she should have sent it to the knacker man not a sale.
If it's so bad the horse goes up from a hands pressure it has serious problems that need sorting out or end it's suffering

The sales have always been seen as a way of passing on problems/offloading horses quickly so witht he credit crunch really starting to bite and winter just around the courner,I am not suprosed you saw the worst there

Young,just backed pony-no it shouldn't have been there,but plenty of young horses do go to auction and cope really well.NF's for example go to sales with next to no handling and cope.
Doesnt mean it's right,but maybe,just maybe the owner diddnt bank on it being so hectic that day and thought the horse would be OK.
