I am likely to be relocating from Sussex to West Devon/East Cornwall soon.....I currently have direct access onto the South Downs so am very spoilt for off road riding...can anyone give me an idea of the best places to look around in terms of riding. I will be able to buy a property with land for my 3 boys to be at home!
Thanks Tamsin

Dartmoor- Tavistock to Yelverton, or Okehampton. Moretonhampstead way as well but I don't know it as well. Less convenient for west Devon / East Cornwall - Plymouth way or north? Border is pretty long.

Definitely recommend the brentor/lydford/bridestowe area. Not only do you have hours of moorland to explore (plus one of the local moors have gallops on it) you also got bridleways and woods/forests too. Fab riding club in the area too. Would try to avoid the whitchurch down moor as there are a lot of dog walkers/tourists who have very little horse sense who walk up there.
A little taster on the moor with the 'gallops' I ride on. The sunsets are fantastic and there's barely anyone up there in autumn/winter apart from local point to pointers and the local hunt occasionally go on there too.

Hope this helps!

anywhere that you're in hacking distance to the moor, Tavistock, grenofen, yelverton, whitchurch, brentor, dousland, buckland anywhere around that area and you can't go wrong. PM me if you want anymore info as I have lived in that area kept horses there.

I agree with the Brentor, Mary tavy, lydford, bridestowe area suggestions. Several pubs in riding distance, which others have failed to mention!
Day ride to princetown is fun from there, or ice creams from the van at cox tor.
Izzwall, I recognise all those views, I'll wave next time I see you :-)

Thanks for advice so far.....looking at Bridestowe and Brentor......ayone jnow anything about Liskeard/Launceston? Just seen a lovely property online ..
