West Nile Virus - Vaccinate or not ???

Hi there,

Just mulling over idea of vaccination against west nile virus. Any one had there horse vaccinated ? Cost ? And is it a real threat yet ? Any thoughts???

You might want to be careful with the vaccination as the vaccination will leave the horse testing positive for the disease I would discuss with DEFRA and your vet, as the horse will have to be proven free of any antibodies to the disease before vaccination or you may have problems proving that it is not a sign of the horse having had the disease.

There are 4 vaccines used in the USA. The disease has never broken out in the UK, but traces of antibodies have been found in birds in the UK.
