Well this is not great news. Although I suppose, given the changes to our climate, it was likely to happen sooner or later.

West Nile virus detected in UK mosquitoes for first time

A UK Health Safety Agency spokesperson said the risk to the general public is "very low".

Probably another thing to vaccinate against in the UK, before too long.

Sadly not a surprise with climate change definitely felt like it was a when not if. West Nile was one of the ones I wrote my postgrad health report on alongside EEE.

We had to vaccinate for Essen a good number of years ago.

I now live in Greece and we vaccinate our horses but many don’t. I have had 2 cases in my club both of which happily survived but it is a horrific disease that no horse should have to endure.
