well, after a week of bad mud and rain today is frosty and sunny so i hauled the new rig(is this what you call western tack?)over to the yard to try on.
(only about 100 yards but no mean task when you are used to a thorogood!)
please excuse muddy pon with hay belly but she didnt do any thing for the last week and a half.
seems to sit ok but i do need to purchase the correct felt pad etc and polypad in pic is a thin one.
my mind went blank as to how to do the cinch up,got to look in to this more and need a practible demo.had muddy boots so didnt sit on,did put a little weight on stirrup but girth not good.

any helpful comment please?

You don't have to use a knot but if you do, use the Texas T knot. You can use the buckle on the cinch instead of a knot, it's just harder to tighten the cinch.

LOL!! Are you still having trouble with that darned cinch?

Yes you need a proper pad, and saddle needs to be back a bit, and where you attach the cinch on the right side should just be left untouched. You only need to have one side undone, generally it's the left.

If you don't want to use knots then buy a cinch with a buckle on it on both sides and just use the buckle and holes. You'll still have to wrap the left side latigo around the rigging and cinch buckle though, however instead of tying the knot, you can just slot the buckle bit through the hole and then lift your latigo and place through the latigo tag, out of the way.

Oh! Oh! Oh! You can buy leather gun cases that you attach to the saddle - I looked at buying one for my shotgun.
