Afternoon y'all

I'm a hunting enthusiast from across the pond in sunny southern Arizona (grew up outside of Tombstone, AZ).
But I have been to England, was stationed near Kings Lynn some 30 years ago. Wish I could have taken advantage then and done a hunt there but was not given much time off by the USAF. Now it's on my bucket list.

I must say, y' all must be fantastic riders to take the fences and water in a hunt. I have over a dozen horses from my TB, QH's and paints.

I hunt bear, deer and lion from horse and hope to own some Walker Hounds soon.

If any of you get out to AZ or UT, shoot me a PM. I'll show you how we hunt.

Red dun paint! I have a couple of those :)

You have bears down there too? We only get bears when the silly things get lost and come too far South (Ontario), thankfully no lions either, just coyotes and foxes.

It is beginning to resemble your country up here, having a bit of a heat wave and our grass is crisping up nicely now :(

Off to google Walker Hounds now, we only have **** Hounds and Catahoulas around here that I know of. Nobody hunts off horses local to me, I think our nearest mounted pack is about 40 miles away, trucks only. Can't quite see the attraction of standing around a field for an hour at a time waiting for deer to be flushed myself, at least, not when it's -20C and the snow is 3' deep. Some guy (wish I could find the photo) comes equipped with a lawn chair and flask!! Smart!

Howdy
We have a very healthy population of bear and lion. In fact in the hunting unit where my little ranch is in southern UT, 17 lions are permitted to be taken yearly. And I've had bear try and break in to my house.
Remember, AZ is 1/3 forrested but we do get bear and lots of lion in the desert.

I see a lot of bobcats too.

Gah! They always censor C o o n hounds  I can't think of anything less offensive than one of them! The only thing I get trying to break into my house is raccoons and chipmunks - somewhat less dramatic than a bear looking for breakfast.

I can see that I need to trot off and learn something about AZ, my geographical knowledge of the US is sadly lacking (I've been to Boston and Niagara and that's all in the US) I hadn't really thought about AZ at all, but pictures always look like yours, sand, stones and cactus plants -

Hunting your way is way at the other end of the scale from the traditional British hunting that I grew up with. Did you get to go and watch when you were in the UK at all? I have to say that even after hunting for 30 years hearing hounds and horn still sent shivers down my back, it is one of the things that I really miss.

Az is about 1/3 forest and prior to the spotted owl debacle, had a vibrant logging industry.
We had a forest fire earlier this month in Apache County and some 600 square miles of timber and 35 homes burned.

The photo is Humphryes Peak in central az, nearly 12,500' elev.
Even near the Mexican border by Tucson, there are 9,000' peaks with ski runs.
