I just emailed someone via ebay about a lovely western saddle they are selling. It is a genuine american leather one bought from america and is the size and colour im looking for, but i dont want to buy directly via ebay and be stuck with it if it doesnt fit!!! So emailed to ask if they would be willing, if it doesnt sell on there, to let me try it on Una and then make them an offer if it fits :D They're only ten mins from me :)

Havent heard back from them, but fingers crossed. Its really nice and exactly what im wanting, not cheap though! About £150 over what i was looking to pay, but thats usually how my budgetting goes lol

Yup, that's usually the way that budgets go!

If you buy it via eBay, if it doesn't fit you could always sell it on?

Yeah, but i dont really want the hassle to be honest, I have no clue about selling on ebay, it sounds really complicated lol Id rather just know it fits before handing over several hundred £££s :D

I have purchased a western saddle via EBay but I already knew that the type of saddle on sale fitted my horse - it had a number. If I were you I would try and find out what size fits your horse before you buy something that may not fit. Do not be tempted to think that all western saddles fit all horses - they do not. If you are in the south of England you would be hard pushed to find a better western saddle fitter than Maria - The Western Saddler. She is very good and very patient, she is in Ringwood, Hampshire. I have two American horses that I ride western and neither saddle fits the other. I had a saddle previously from a horse that I lost and I used his old western saddle on my quarter horse because 'they both seemed to be the same shape!' But when Maria came out to fit my appaloosa she checked the quarter horse too and the saddle was 'bridging', not sitting on the horse's back in the middle. He was bucking in canter and no wonder. It has put me off cantering him! I borrowed a Montana saddle in the size which fitted him and then one appeared on EBay (couldn't believe my luck!) and managed to get it for a reasonable price. A good western saddle is the same cost as a good English one. Please don't be like me and upset your horse because you have the wrong size western saddle. There are people who can help ok not so many as English saddle fitters but it is worth checking out.

Thats exactly what im trying to do, make sure it fits before I buy it :) Hence why i dont want to buy it via ebay and be stuck with it if it doesnt fit.

Hey UnaB. Good luck and let me know how you get on. Was thinking along the same lines for his lordship. :-)

Reselling on Ebay is not so bad - I managed it. Quite easy actually - I surprised myself. The only thing I had to contend with was 1 sticky buyer, but other than that... :-)

I was only trying to help you. The reason people post on the forum (I thought) was for help and assistance from people who have experienced similar!
Good luck and I hope you get what you are looking for.

Or just to share news :D

But i did appreciate the help as a lot of people think any western saddle will fit any horse. But that isnt the issue I have as I do have someone lined up to check it for me :)
