Where do you put your wet rugs?

If I cant leave them on ted, I hang them up by the front straps on a hook in the barn.

I dont know if this is the best method to dry them. Just wondered if anyone had more suggestions.

Also if they are dry where do you put them.
I have so many rugs im trying to get organised. I've just bought some Tie rings to put up in the stable to hang string between to flop some over.

G only has one TO rug, a Rambo Duo that I was lucky enough to be lent by a friend. Its never leaked so I've never had to dy it. I know they're expensive but I would never by another TO rug now.

We've a rug dryer for the livery clients but generally for our own just leave the rugs on to dry unless the horse is wet underneath.

Preferably wet rugs hung up to dry like the OP, if not thrown over hay/straw in the barn.
I don't like the idea of leaving wet rugs on horses to dry in their stables.

I have one dry rug hung up in the stable on string and the spare rugs thrown over the partition in the trailer.

if the rug is dry underneath which it should be then no harm will come. There is nothing worse than putting a cold clammy rug on a horse in the morning after taking a cosy stable rug off.

I hang rugs up to dry or put them over the hay or straw.
I store my dry rugs that im not going to be using in there original bags in a container in the room I keep all my stuff, dry rugs I am using are folded on top of the container. I really don't like the thought of them being hung in stables.

Rugs that I am not using, are folded up and stored in old metal filing cabinets as recommended by someone on this forum. Rugs being dried are on poles on jump stands in the barn. I have a collapsible rug rail on a wall in each stable which is usually just used for a cooler.

Ikea do clear zipped flat bags which are perfect to store clean rugs. My turn out rugs are used in the stable too- they dry on the horse overnight and the horses stay warmer provided they're dry underneath. I used to love having stable jim jams but have found what I do now so much better for me and ponies!

mine tend to live in their duo purpose rugs in the winter. additional rugs in use are hung on chains inside the stables of each horse. exercise sheets, and a couple of coolers/thermatex hang in the spare stable for use as required. the rest (of which there are far too many) live in the rug room which is racked. stacked in sections for stable rugs, to rugs, travelling rugs, show/best rugs, summer rugs so they are easy to find!

Right so theres not really much better then what im doing now. Bummer! lol.

Well at least im doing something right. Im not keen on leaving his rug on from day time over night as I think they need that extra layer when in and standing, although when the rugs has come in, in a terrible state i've not wanted to touch it and left it on.
Thanks!

I have a length of drain pipe suspended from the roof by rope one side of his stable wall - just throw the rug over and dries off a treat. Have spare turnout in case of sudden trashing though! :D

Yes like many others my mare tends to live 24-7 in her turnouts, they're so much more sophisticated these days too. She's always toastie warm and dry under her rug and they soon dry out when she comes in with body heat. Plus I think it's much nicer to be toastie warm all the time than keep swapping into cold rugs twice a day! I do have a spare one hung over the stable wall (they're not full height walls between stables) incase I feel one is too horrible to leave on!

I have made a rug drier. The rugs are hung full length by the fillet string loops. ( ours are all horseware )

Its sounds complicated but it isn't. We have this system in two of our sheds now, though you do need a roof that is high enough to hang the rug so it doesn't touch the floor.

What you need.

2 parallel poles like bath shower curtain poles or curtain poles. Fasten these to the roof of your shed as high as you can get.

Then take your old wooden brush handles. Cut the brush head off. Get some metal cup hooks and screw one in the end and the other 3" down from the same end. You need two for each rug. You then hook the side hook through the fillet loop and the top hook over the parallel poles. The rug stays attached to the brush handle.

Voila ! Rug hanger. Try and put your poles in a draft as they dry faster.

Once you have made your brush handle poles you can use them to hang your rugs outside as well. Just screw some up hooks high up out of the way of nosey noses and so the rug doesn't touch the floor.

If you want more info or some pics pm me.

I hang wet rugs up under the over-hang of the stables - if it's a dry day - but i do put them in my boiler room just to make sure . we also have lengths of guttering , threaded with rope in the hay barn , it helps if you can slide a length of wood inside them to just to keep them solid as wet rugs are heavy , i then store them in a large plastic garden box which came from B & Q just to stop the mice nicking the fillings for their beds!
