Our cob is very wet in his stable we have them on straw and their stables are lifted everyday, however he still manages to create i nice puddle over night!
We are going to be putting shavings down to try and help soak the wet up but wandered if anyone else has this problem what do they use? Thanks

My big coloured cob mare who pee's for the olympics has heavy duty mats and she's fine on shavings over the top but its a horror-filled pee-puddle mess on straw

I am now at the stage that I take out the wet once a week & check under mats (just in case - but over past 4 weeks its been fine so far), whereas on straw it had to be daily & lifting mats to dry/disinfect too each day.

Good luck

I had a sharer for my previous horse and her mucking out involved lifting the middle up onto the banks.
Rather than pull that back down and put a bit of fresh on top, she put all fresh in the middle.
Apart from the fact it cost me a small fortune in straw, he too had a puddle in the middle of his bed.

Do you put the old, more absorbent straw back down, or just fresh in?

We put the straw we are able to save down as the base with fresh over the top. Ive just never known a little cob to be so wet, he used to be on shavings on the old place which we lifted once a week. But where we are now the straw is included in the price so it would cost a fortune to use different bedding plus the stables are a generous size, so was thinking of just sprinkling something underneath the shavings to help soak the wet. Not sure if there is anything better than shavings to do the job?

Sawdust rather than shavings under straw always seems to work. as long as your horse isnt prone to respiratory problems, because they do occasionally decide the whole lot needs tipping upside down and mixing up. but sawdust will always sit on the bottom and does a good job soaking up, you can even deep litter the sawdust, and muck out the straw

We have a horribly wet gelding, and have rubber mats and straw (just can't bring myself to pay for shavings any more!). We find that he is much better if we semi-deep litter him from mon-fri, just taking the droppings out, and then putting a few slices of straw on top. The bed stays put much more, and as it gets thicker it seems to absorb more. He is always stood on the clean straw on top, so no feet problems, and the lot is taken out at weekends..
