We've gone barefoot - what have your experiences been?

Following on from my post about Kali's appalling feet, we've decided to remove his hind shoes to give his feet a rest from all those nail holes. He's been barefoot behind for a week now and isn't remotely footy (hurrah) so fingers crossed this will do the trick.

Also, after chatting with my farrier, we've decided to finish up the Blue Chip and switch him to Farrier's Formula . . . I may have to give him some pink powder just as a balancer/support for his hind gut, but we may live dangerously and not bother with a calmer (he is soooo chilled right now).

So for those of you who have gone barefoot - either just behind or on all four feet - how did you find your horses coped and what did you do (if anything) to support the transition?

Thanks in advance.

Hey in the last week I have gone barefoot in front with one of my horses (he has not had hind shoes on ever). He has been abit footy on hard ground/stones as it to be expected, but he is coping fine I am pleased I have done it. He did not like the farrier and therefore I decided to try without. He is old so isn't ridden but I do take him on exercise most days with my others and he is going v well. I havent changed his diet at all, just gave him a few days to adjust , although it does depend on the quality of hoof you have to start with- if there feet are poor then I can understand that some people would want to give additional supplements to help strengthen the hoof. Hope all goes well for you and ur horse!!
