Whalebone in boots - is it real?

as I got deeper and deeper into looking for tall riding boots I stumbled across "whalebone reinforced" item in Konigs section. Does anyone know if it is real whalebone?! eeek I'd like to be a good rider but if Mr Whale has to give up his bone for me that is too much IMHO :/

I was going to say that it certainly used to be real, but I would think they'd use synthetic ones now. However I've just dug my Konigs out, and you are right it definitely says whale bone. So must be real? urghgggg
