After years of having random piles of bandages, creams, duct tape, gauze etc thrown around the tack room and I’m actually properly putting together a first aid kit so next time the horses get a lump or bump I’m not searching endlessly around for what I need.

So I ask, what’s in your horsey first aid kits?

I used to have a lovely first aid kit, but I found it dwindling because nobody else seemed to bother having one and didn’t replace anything they ‘borrowed’. These days it’s just a collection of stuff that’s hidden in a cupboard.

I have the usual bandages, vetwrap, a roll of cotton wool (can be used for bandaging or as a clean wipe), Animalintex, tape, antiseptic/antibacterial spray, scissors, pliers, wire cutters, thermometer, syringes, sudocrem, Hibiscrub. I’m sure there’s loads more lotions and potions i’ve collected over the years too.

Nothing else needed for emergencies, if you can surgically scrub a wound, wrap it, take tpr and know your horses normal tpr then that’s what you need. If shod then you need gear to remove shoes.
