Hi all, i have a discovery as a second car for towing. I dont have my own trailer yet and wont untill the new year. Im looking to get a single trailer as really, i wont be towing both of mine anywhere at the same time! The disco is abit big and thirsty and heavy on the insurance and tax as a second car! Im not after anything special. I have a 57 plate 207 as my everyday work car. I cannot afford the day to day fuel costs of a 4x4 hence having a small run around car! and its still on finance so stuck with that really otherwise i would prob get rid of it!
My insurance on the disco is high, i am only 20 years old and hold all my no claims on my peugeot policy which makes my disco policy well over £1000 a year! Its fantastic for towing dont get me wrong! but i just feel i really dont need something this big as a second car to tow one horse!
Any input appreciated! Thanks

how about a fourtrak?

They would be ideal, but they are like gold dust unless you want to travel miles! and they are a bigger engine again, they are 2.8's so would have thought that insurance wouldnt be much different. Will do some quotes when i get back from work.

We had a ford Maverick, SWB (sold it to me sister)

Sold it as it was underweight to tow two big beasties in the 510....

Fab little truck, never missed a beat! But like others, can be hard to find....

Good luck!

I love my Xtrail DCI sport 2.2 :D Great milage, low tax and last winter it was passing heavier 4x4's that were mired as they were very heavy :D

Would recommend them highly we have had one for years and are on our second and will be upgrading to the new model in the new year :)

I have towed two horses with it and its been fab. I have a 505 hunter and its fine with the two.

Honda CRV over a HRV - fantastic jeep

Other half is a Honda technician and he has one as his daily as his fast track car isn't a practical daily car!

Some of them also come with a picnic table in the boot ; )

I tow with a Suzuki Grand Vitara 1.9L Diesel - 1 horse in an IW 505 without any problems at all. Its very economical to run too.

well i have just done a quote for a fourtrack and it is half the price!! Anybody want to buy a very well looked after landrover discovery! only problem is, the closest fourtrack is over 80 miles away ;-)

Yeah I'm on my second Grand Vitara and use it to tow 505 and we have 5 berth caravan and it tows beautifully - wouldn't have bought another one otherwise and it was a lot cheaper to buy than most 4x4s

Santa fe- I to am 20 and it was the best engine size/ tow capacity to insurance price ratio I could find. Tows my 505 and 1 horse beautifully and is around 700 to insure and low tax band

Another Nissan Terrano fan here and you can get some decent ones for not much money. Also a Fourtrak if you can find them but look out for the rust, they're all getting long in the tooth although the engines go on for ever.
