I took Katie to a show yesterday to do the VHS classes, i entered the Pre Veteran class(15-19yo) and the ridden, We did the in hand class and in the final line up when the Judge was handing out the rosettes he said she was not in the condition of a 16yo and he said she was 23!! (he didnt look in her mouth) he then said what made me think she was 16 etc and how he thought she was alot older! It really upset me tbh i really thought she looked ok??
I did 2 other classes and she won one and got a third in the other so a real mixed day! But it really took the shine of it all for me.
So please have a look at the pic of her in the veteran class and see what you think??
Sorry this got long chocolate malted milk to all!!

Bit tricky to find the picture, but found it at last! NO idea what the judge is on about.

And why 23, exactly? Why not 22 or 24? TBH, with the stories some people post here about showing judges, one wonders if they've been at the bottle before heading into the ring, sometimes!

I wouldn't worry about that class, and simply enjoy your rosettes from the other classes! What classes were they, btw?

I can't see how she could look really old in one class and win another? It reminds me why I don't do showing, if you're jumping you either knock it down or you don't.

she looks stunning, just ignore the judge! it said that to me first time, but when I closed it and then opened the link again, it worked fine....so maybe try that everyone?

If you go to the homepage, click on the most recent show, and then on the folder for the 24th. Then, you go into Album 5, where there's a further album for the VHS classes. In that album, it's on the first page, 4th row down, the coloured.

Right, thank you SP

I've seen very fit horses in their mid-twenties and very down and out types in their teens.

Hugs hunny. Enjoy the good stuff from the day

I think she looks fine

I suspect the judge would maybe of expected her to have a little more muscle i.e topline and a more 'defined' belly.
Looking at the others in the class i think the judge was just comparing yours to the TB types which you just can't do.

Well, i have already given you my thoughts on thie stupid, ignorant, nasty minded, unprofessional, plonker. I got straight to the pic second time i tried. She looks amazing, no way soes she even look 16 never mind twenty bleedy three! What about those feathers, you had her turned out beautifully. It must be tons of work keeping /getting those feathers so white. She is a credit to you, so go and bask in the glory of your fancy red rosette and forget that nasty man!

Thats showing for you

She looks in good condition in those pics, I don't like to see veterans massively overweight any more than younger horses. We show our pony (who is 23) in veteran, throughout the season at our local riding club she has changed places with the others in the veteran class, sometimes she wins, sometimes she is down the line, very much depends what the judge is looking for. What does annoy us is one very fat 15 year old that has beaten her on a couple of occasions, imo it really is not in good condition, and needs to be slimmed down if it is going to live into its 20s.
