Yesterday I hacked my new horse to a friend's to play on her XC course. Since it was our first time hacking alone together (been with other horses previously) my mum came on foot on the way there (more for her peace of mind than mine!) It was about 2 miles hack there, all on roads. We passed a lake with people sailing, all varieties of traffic, a field full of yearlings, village bunting, small yelling children on bikes...and the only thing he looked twice at was a terrifying bunch of daffodils :D
He was very good at my friend's too- she was on her 6yo ex racer, and as Cash is an ex racer too (and I hadn't actually cantered him in company in an open space before!!) we thought it might be interesting..! But no, he was very keen but a complete gentleman- we warmed up in a 4 acre field, with birds flying up out of the long grass, but I was able to canter right round with no problems, even threw in a few flying changes (I won't say whether or not they were intentional ;) ). Once on the course, he did (understandably!) get very excited when he was behind my friend's horse (a lot of Tigger impressions :D ) but once I was on my own and in a rhythm, he was great. We had some silly runouts, basically because I don't know him very well yet (this was my 3rd time jumping him since I've got him) and I wasn't commiting on the approach enough, so he'd just skip out the side of spooky jumps! But jumped them all second time, including a tiger trap, a skinny, a coffin and blue barrels :)
He was excellent to hack home too (still raring to go!!).
No pics from yesterday, but a random one just coz he's cute:

Sorry, bit of a long and pointless post, but I can't believe I've finally got one who's sane in traffic, a good XC horse AND a nice person too! :D
