I found this very insightful poem about the benefits of being around horses.
It especially appealed to as I have a new young horse that I am trying to communicate with.

A Little Perspective

Let me teach you.

When you are tense, let me teach you to relax.

When you are short tempered, let me teach you to be patient.

When you are short sighted, let me teach you to see.

When you are quick to react, let me teach you to be thoughtful.

When you are angry, let me teach you to be serene.

When you feel superior, let me teach you to be respectful.

When you are self absorbed, let me teach you to think of greater things.

When you are arrogant, let me teach you humility.

When you are lonely, let me be your companion.

When you are tired, let me carry the load.

When you need to learn, let me teach you. After all, I'm your horse.

A lovely poem, do wonder if my darling mare might have taken it out of context though!
Although I love all that she does for me, sometimes being barged out of the way by her doesn't help my patience, just because my sight isn't enough to spot a leaf that is a spooky shade of green isn't reason enough to test me, when I am enjoying a chilled out hack she helps me to think of greater things like not hitting the road when the drain cover that has been there for years looks like it might get her, I am arrogant to assume that because we have practised a test a million times over we might get it right - I do indeed feel humiliated being taken like a train during attempted downwards transitions, but she is my companion and I adore her!

Yes so very true!!! Today I lost my temper with my youngster trying to get a fly fringe on him, I d been trying for half an hour! But I had to modify my instinct to chase him off in exasperation, took a deep breath, did a little lateral thinking, decided to use the fly fringe as a trigger to get a treat, and finally got it on him ten minutes later. Certainly exercising my creative side!

When you are short tempered, let me teach you to slog around the field for an hour before you can catch me.
When you are short sighted, let me teach you to figure out where, exactly, in the 40 acres I am hiding.
When you are quick to react, let me teach you that herbivores kick much faster (harder) than omnivores.
When you are angry, let me teach you how well I can stand on my hind feet because I don't feel like cantering on my right lead today.
When you are worried, let me entertain you with my mystery lameness.
When you feel superior, let me teach you that, mostly, you are the maid service.
When you are self absorbed, let me teach you to PAY ATTENTION. Remember? I told you about those lions in them thar woods?

Few riders let their horses teach them though, unfortunately! They dont feel or listen enough.

A lesson we should all take notice of!
 
I first saw that when I was loaning Phae and I re-worked it for her. I loved that mare but by god she was hard work sometimes.

Let me teach you.

When you are tense, let me teach you that if you do not relax I will go no-where.
When you are short tempered, let me teach you that without patience I will ignore you completely.
When you are short sighted, let me show you just how intelligent I am.
When you are quick to react, I will prove I can react quicker.
When you are angry, I will not let you within 6 feet of me however much you swear.
When you feel superior, let me take you down with a bump.
When you are self absorbed, let me point out that evil shadow over there.
When you are arrogant, we will see how arrogant you are on your arse in the mud.
When you are tired, I will frustrate you beyond measure.

However when you are lonely I am always here.
When you look rough, I really don’t care
And whatever you feel, I will not judge

Most of all if you will learn, then listen and I will teach you. After all, I'm your horse.
