A few days ago we had a knock at the door. A lady very apologetically asked if we had a cat as she thought she had clipped it with her car in the lane outside our house. She said she couldn't just drive off as if it was hurt we would know nothing about it if the cat went off hurt.
She helped us search the opposite hedge up and down the lane, to no avail. Eventually my OH took one of our labs into the field and she found her. The lady stayed on the lane and slowed passing traffic in case the cat came back over it, which the cat eventually did, OH couldn't get hold of her.
Luckily the cat was unharmed if a bit puzzled by the commotion.
The lady returned the following day to make sure the cat had suffered no ill effects. My faith in humans is restored.
