Isn't it funny how some days nothing goes right!
I went for a quiet hack with a couple of others from the yard. We were just walking up to the brow of a steep hill when my horse was spooked by a dog appearing at speed over the brow of the hill. The ground was uneven so when he stepped back there he lost his footing and we ended up with him vertical and scrabbling around for his footing. He managed to sort himself out, from what felt like the point of no return and somehow I ended up still on him - just a bit shaken.
Meanwhile one of the others had dismounted as she thought Boo was coming over backwards onto me and wanted to be ready to deal with the casualties. She couldn't believe then she turned round and we were upright again as she said we'd gone past the verticle when she decided to dismount. When she went to get back on she pulled her calf muscle and ended up hobbling round before she finally managed to scramble on board.
We decided at that point we fancied a return to base. The last bit of our hacking is along the edge of a busy A road. Our horses are usually bombproof, but our YOs youngsters were in the field at the side of the road and started having a hooly up and down the fence line. The horses spooked Boo and he spun round so we ended up stopping the traffic as well
I was so angry with him at that point I could've cheerfully strangled him.
Got back into the yard with a sigh of relief only to have one of the neighbours come round to tell us she'd found the youngsters out and heading for the main road. YO is away this weekend and I'm looking after them so major panic. She had got them back into the field we didn't know how they got out so decided to bring them into the yard until YO gets home this pm. One of them had a cut leg, so needed cleaning and bandaging. Luckily its not too bad and his owner is home later.
So much for my nice relaxing morning's riding! Can someone remind me why we have horses please?
