I was browsing youtube looking for training tips etc and came across this clip of quite one of the most incredible rears. I cannot believe the horse didn't come over backwards. Fair play to the rider.

http://youtu.be/rPhx9ETxExk

Clearly the horse had a bit of a history and was schooled through it, I don't know anything about this trainer but to get through all of his issues must be something else. I cannot imagine getting on that horse (or any) without a hat. Beggars belief.

I had to laugh at one of the posts asking how they trained the horse to do that...

Ps. The music is a touch on the dramatic side.

Wow! I can't believe the guy knows the horse so well that he knows he isn't finished and just waits in his position for the next rear!! If that had been my horse, I would have shot it LOL!

I've just looked at a few other clips of his regarding the same horse. He's an ex racer with serious pain/trust issues which by the looks of things, have been pretty much overcome with the help of this chaps training methods.

Impressive.

What is not impressive is that he's not blooming wearing a hat !!! We all think dressage divas are crazy but they are nothing compared to this utter stupidity

Eeek 2.08s shows a nasty rear.

What amazes ME is that he's able to handle the horse in a plain headcollar. The horse isn't pulling to get away. It's almost as if he's performing in-hand.

Very brave man, I would be getting him going forwards before even thinking about going on him, how do people get these horse to this state as actually there seems to be no aggression in the horse's expressions? He is just being dominant, and needs to learn that MAN is the Master Race!
Most difficult rearers I have handled will paddle their front feet in your face in order to make you let go, and one ends up either quickly slapping the neck with the rope end and turning them in a circle, or getting out of the way pdq.
I have seen stupid young jockeys teaching horses to rear when the trainer is not about, easy to do, difficult to stop.

OMG that is an impressive rear i would need clean pants everytime i was near that horse!
I agree the horse looks to be performing,,,you could say he would do well in spanish riding school! However i have looked at a few more videos and they have done an impressive turnaround. i dread to think how that horse was treated when racing to behave like that.

Wheres his HAT tho...plain stupid!!

Wow. Does anyone know who this guy is? He is amazing, and not a young gent either by the look of him! He has a helluva lot of pluck to get on a horse like that. I particularly didn't like the way the horse was kicking out at him with the near hind in the early part of the DVD - and TBH I think the vast majority of people would have been ringing kennels very early on if faced with a horse like this!!! I know its an option I certainly would have considered.

But well done to him for persevering; although personally I do very much suspect that if faced with a different rider and/or put under pressure in a situation, then that horse will revert to rearing again. Mine has reared vertically on occasions such as shows/hunting, and even though he's a darling 99% of the time and myself & trainer achieved a great deal with him by working on the ground, I know damn well that there's still a "rearer" in there who can and will still chuck in a rear when he feels like it.

^^ this. My lass when first put on the longlines went right up and over (shes 17hh) so a big horse to fight with. Her whole problem was she didnt trust me and was trying to be dominant so after a lot of ground work, touching wood lol she hasnt done it under saddle. However its always in the back of my mind that she could do it again. All pain possibilites were ruled out first after her first display.... so we knew it was her testing us and not a reaction to pain.

Im sure that TB had problems with its neck and was reacting to pain, but good on that man for not giving up on it :) although a hat would have been nice to see :D

What stunned me was the first comment on the list.I quote:

"It's a beatiful video... love it <3

can you please tell me how to make the horse rear???

Thanks."
:eek::eek:

I would have liked to have seen full speed footage, which I think would be more terrifying to watch and would not give the 'trick horse' impression.

That was lovely!!! I genuinely enjoyed watching him handle that, he was calm and quiet and just worked the horse through it until he knew he was going to stay there no matter what he did.

That's brightened my morning :)

You know, I was just thinking how the man was lovely and quiet, and how not once did he check the horse. By the looks of things he just kept quietly persevering!

No comments about hat and bodyprotector from me, even with a hat and bodyprotector I would not get on that horses back, so my hats off to that man!!! (literally!!!) :D

What an amazingly calm rider/handler. I know very few people who could remain calm in that situation and I am definitely not one of them!
What on earth is he doing anywhere near that kind of horse without a hat though? I wouldn't have gone near him in full body armour :D

Ah, this is Jean Luc Cornille, very famous French trainer who specialises in "last chance" horses; great guy who is a classical dressage master and very gentle. Why are English people so obsessed with hats?

Man if only i was more like him...! When your in the moment its near on impossible to be that calm i mean he doesnt even blink just ignores it and waits it out certainly making me feel a bit pathetic after sully wully reared over backwards onto me yesterday. I was in a hat (granted no bp) and now sitting at home moping about how scratched and sore i am what an incredible video and a credit to him for getting a horse through that.

Beautiful horse but would scare the life out of me. I agree with above that when he is leading it, the prancing around bucking, rearing etc seems so controlled lol.

Just watched the making of the DVD clip, poor horse was so messed up, I agree and love how calm and quiet the trainer is.

Glad the horse finally got there in the end.
