My friend has a 5 year Dutch WB that she does affiliated dressage with. In the summer she moved him up to Medium and he won his first 2 tests
but then 2 days later he had an accident in the field, hooning around we think, and he fractured a hip
...... Diagnosis was 12 weeks box rest and then he would either be sound or never sound again.
Last week, sfter 12 long weeks, the vet came and has given her the all clear to start in-hand walking - 6 weeks starting at 5 mins per day building up to 30 mins and then she can start riding him again..... What a massive relief! He has been so good in the stable, unbelievably so considering how fit he was when it happened.
He is such an awesome horse - talented, beautiful to look at, trainable, affectionate with a nature to die for. I trust him with my 7 year old in and out of the stable and the thought of him being left permanently unsound at the age of 5 didn't bear thinking about.
Ok, there's no point to this except I'm so pleased for my friend and the horse! Hopefully by next April/May we'll be back out at shows - my daughter and I 'groom' for her (use the word groom lightly - we fetch and carry, hitch a ride, video and generally have fun days out
!!).
May Rusty now be forever sound!
