Just having a moan...

so I was meant to be going on a hunt ride today, was really looking forward to it as we haven't been out in ages. Got everything ready yesterday and pony was immaculate. Ended up waiting on the grass verge opposite my house for my lift to turn up and to cut a long story short, the woman got stuck in traffic for an hour and then couldn't find my address for tge ladt half an hour so I told her to forget it. We were already 40 mins late for the start of the ride by this point so there really was no point. I hadn't met her before - I put a post on Facebook looking for transport and she messaged me. I just don't understand hoe she couldn't find me as I live on an A road and postcode takes you straight to my address! ? I was a little p*ed off to say the least...!

On the plus side, my spotty boy stood like a saint stuffing his face on the grass verge and didn't even bat an eyelid when a cow in a neighbouring field decided to break through the fence and join him. We went for a lovely long hack just the two of us in the end which we both enjoyed so it wasn't all bad, just disappointing! I need to win the lottery so I can afford a lorry of my horse own!

how has everyone else's weekend been?

How disappointing for you. If I win I will keep you in mind.

ahh thank you! ? yes it was. I know horses don't genuinely feel disappointment as they don't realise what they have missed but I still felt bad for him. He's 21 now so I really want to make the most of these last few years we can go out for. The ontk downside to having horses at home is not having lots of contacts with lorries to be able to make these thigns happen.

If I was that lady who had offered you a lift, and then I saw this post, I'd be a bit peed off myself and certainly not offering to give you a lift anywhere else .

I understand that you are frustrated, but how rude.

I wouldn't call it rude. Like I said you do not know the full story. The lady would not listen to the directions I gave her as she insisted she knew where she was going and I was telling her wrong.

You'll get a refund on the cost of transport as it didn't work out. Lesson learned; use a different company next time but it wasn't all down to the driver, she can't control the traffic.

Sh*t happens. kind of her to offer you the lift, even if she didn’t make it to you in time.

Think I’d be saving for my own transport, then you’re not relying on the kindness of others for lifts. x

Was this professional transport that you had organised and paid for? If so I’d be a bit annoyed as whilst I appreciate traffic if there’s been an accident etc that could of been an event with large entry fees you are missing.

If this was a stranger offering you a lift then I absolutely would not be annoyed. And would feel guilty I made their day stressful. But then again I wouldn’t dream of asking on Facebook for a free lift as I’d feel too cheeky when there are professional transport companies out there.

My earlier comments were based on what the OP has previously posted. She was on HHO asking for lifts in larger lorries to hunt rides, and offering to 'pay for fuel'.

If it was a pro transporter, then you could reasonably be miffed, but not if it was a 'trying to be helpful' member of the public offering a space on their lorry.

Just posting saying that the transport didn't work out hence missing the ride would have been fine, but not the additional narky remarks about this woman.

ETA It strikes a nerve with me as I've been the one offering the lift before. I no longer do that, it's a thankless task.

Could you pay for a professional transporter next time? Maybe try to team up with someone else who doesn't have transport and they could pick you both up? That might help keep costs down a bit. I gave our elderly car a pep talk and bought a third hand trailer rather than going down the route of relying on other people for transport - it's never worked for me before so I do understand your frustration.

I understand the frustration though, if she wouldn't listen to directions and if Satnav takes you straight to the address. I wish I had a tenner for every person I've given specific instructions to ignore their satnav and on no account turn right off the main road who later ring me saying "I'm at Brookhouse Farm", which is the centre of the postcode, to the right and half a mile away!

Why is it that when you give specific instructions, 'Take the right fork and follow the lane round to the right when you get to the cobbles - do NOT go down the cobbled hill', even the vet rings you up and says. 'I'm at the bottom of the cobbled hill'?

I once had a gasman ring and say he was lost, when I asked where he was he told me he could see geese. At that time there were several fields locally and not so locally with geese. Why on earth didn't he mention the phone box, or the road signs?

OP, life is much easier with your own transport, or if you hire transport, which we did before we bought our own.

Our yard can be tricky to find . The postcode covers the whole village as it's tiny but the farm is about a mile out of the village. I tell everybody Sat Nav won't work and give them a set of directions I've perfected over the years (I've even measured distances in my car as the turning into our lane is really easy to miss) and saved on my phone. I've had dozens of people telling me they're fantastic directions and arriving with no problems. They include "The sat nav / postcode will want to send you to the church. If you reach the church you have gone too far" and I then give directions to approach the yard from the other direction. I recently had someone phone me saying "I'm lost, I'm at the church." I told him the directions I had sent gave directions from the church if he had missed the turning and he told me he hadn't followed them as they were so clear they were patronising.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

If I was the person offering to take someone for fuel money, I would also be fed up. I don't suppose she meant to get stuck in traffic or to get lost. I suppose the hour and a half detour also made her late for the hunt ride.

Our place can be hard to find too, always give clear directions but people consistently get it wrong. They always get here, and drive back and forward past it until I call them. The name is on the gate, and I even describe the gate. I often end up standing in the road, flagging them down. Yes, even the vet!

Even if you hadn't used "he" in your post I'd have put big money on this being a man.

Hadn't posted this for criticism was just sharing my day - wasn't intending to have a dig at anybody. Who said I was 'just paying fuel money' anyway?! Like I said earlier, you don't know the full story so there is no point making assumptions.
