As the question asks what activities do you do in Riding club apart from the normal flatwork/jumping lessons. I was asked for some suggestions & thought that I would ask you for ideas.
Over the years clubs I have belonged to have done a variety of things including the usual dressage and jumping activities plus handy horse etc. Also fun activities and social evenings with other clubs. This has included competitons in darts, yard of ale, welly throwing, canoe racing, space hoppper racing etc. Very varied really. Plus of course the usual dinners, discos, parties etc.
We do weekly lessons with two instructors and clinics with visiting instructors and normally have at least one competition a month - all the usual things, (dressage, sj, ct, ode, TREC, ht, with a few seasonal themes, such as easter, halloween or christmas) plus a few less conventional things like indoor cross country and a 'jumping derby' which is a mix of sj and xc. We also have a junior camp, an adult riding weekend at the Gower, training days for things like TREC or preparing for showing and a few social events like quiz nights, race nights and a few for the kids like halloween or bonfire night events.
Edited to add - and a dog show, one of our best supported events!
We also have a dog show. We have points shows for equitation and showjumping. Had a gymkhana day with a handy pony course last Saturday with separate classes for under/over 30s. We support 2 different charities, one human one animal each year and try to make at least one local or especially pertinent to club members and we have the Christmas Fancy Dress Ride to raise charity funds. We also have Easter & Hallowe'en fancy dress comps. We like social rides so have a Picnic Ride, a Day Ride a Mad March Ride (was going to be Valentine's Day Ride "spend time with the one you love - your horse!" but the weather was vile). We often join with a neighbouring club and have talks by farrier/dentist/nutritionist etc. The annual Beach Ride is popular as is the visit to Your Horse Live also visits to evening race meetings.
beach/hill rides, skittles, bbqs, dog show, members only shows (showing and dressage- very popular), talks from local vets etc, horsey tack sales, sidesaddle have a go, stud trips (when there are cute foalies!)
