What age can you neuter a kitten??

6 months is what i was told.... although a few people i know have had it done sooner - what are the complications then of having it done sooner??

not sure there are any - think you can do them as young as 2 months as long as their testes have dropped and they are over 2 pounds in weight. Not sure why the vets recommend 6 months - its just the age they reach sexual maturity I think.

as long as they are over 2k and there bits have dropped you can do them, although some vets just wont do it before 6 months, which tbh is a pain in the butt as when it is summer and there bits are down they want to be out!

We bought a pedigree cat 7 years ago and the breeder said 6months or when he sprays. He sprayed when he was 5months old and we took him to the vets and he was booked in the next week. Hope that helps x

I think its more of a size thing then age, I had a brother and sister - he was done at about 5 1/2 months where as the girl had to wait as she was still so small (eventually done at 6 1/2 months) so 6 months as a guide, depending on the cat.

My vet will do them at 1 kilo which is about 12 weeks onwards.

Like many breeders I get my pet kittens neutered before they leave, tyically at 13 -14 weeks -a week after their second vaccination - so they can go to their new homes a week later.

This is a great filter for dodgy purchasers as it is amazing how many enquirers only want a pet and don't want to breed but back off when you say they are neutered.

I don't know why so many vets insist on waiting as many cats are fertile well before six months.

They certainly are my siamese got caught by the local rough down the road at just over 5 months resulting in a caesarian and 5 beautiful stripey kittens and a nice bill, I think the vets gave her the wrong ones as not one was siamese colour luckily she loved them anyway!

Most of mine have been done at 6 months, sometimes around 10 months to a year if we don't have any females about and are house cats. We did have to have the previous 2 done at 4 months though as one caught himself on a nail and came in with one hanging out! He went missing a few months later so his brother lives in devon with my gran and is suffering no ill effects froms being done at 4 months :)
