What age generally do children go on to their 14.2hh's?

I knows its dependant on height ability and also the previous ponies ability etc etc etc

But from experience when did you or your children go up to 14.2hh's I was about 13 I think but children seem to ride bigger ponies theses days?

The reason I'm asking as the local stud has just bought a warmblood pony stallion and I was considering buying a NF mare and breeding a foal which would be 5 when my daughter was 13, but theres no point if DD will be ready before the pony is......

Ditto 12 or 13 but really depends upon the child and what they are doing with the pony. Hard to give a definite age but I would say 13 would be okay to aim for. I have x 4 sons so they're taller and heavier and my 13 and 14 year olds are onto 15+hh already, simply because of their heights.
 
Yes my daughters are quite tall 5 & 6 and wear age 8 clothes so fear I have missed the boat for this idea- never mind- best to know now....
 
B was 11 when we got Willough who is a full up 148cm. B was tall and skinny, prob about 5'2" . She is now 20 and 5'6" and was still competing W until we bred from her. She foaled a colt last July.
 
Interested to hear the views on this. My daughter is 7 & I plan for her to go onto my 14.2 in 2 years. This is mainly cos mine is an old school mistress tho & would struggle with the price tag of the equivalent 13.2 version. If I didn't already have her would guess she'd move up at 12 or 13. I've always been tall but light & daughter is the same. I think your plan sounds fine, unless your daughter will become too heavy for her pony before new one ready I don't see a problem. If she gets a bit too tall for hers meantime it wouldn't worry me as long as their both having fun.
 
My girl was 12 when she got her 14hh. She is tiny & never outgrew her 12.1hh just outgrew the ponies ability. We did go out to get a 14.2hh but they were just way to big for her! If she had been a tad taller she would have gotten a 14.2hh & stayed on it until 16yrs (does BS)
 
Depends on the size and ability of the child....we have an 11 year old on my yard about to move from her 14.2 onto horses as she is very tall for her age
 
It largely (no pun intended :D ) depends on the height of the child. Elder son was on a 13.2 by the time he was 8 and a 14.2 at 10 as he is so tall, but younger son is 8 and still has plenty of growing room on his 11.2.

We put our 13.1 NF JA pony mare to Tiny Tim, the legendary 12.2 JA pony stallion and have a rising 5yo 12.2 for younger son to move on to, so long term planning can work! I just hope they get along now as it's a long time to have a pony if they don't ....
 
I think it depends on the child's height, and also on how many ponies you're willing to get them! I know plenty of kids who've moved on to their 14.2hhs at about 13 or 14, some even later, but they've generally been through at least 2 ponies before that because they have horsey parents who don't mind all the chopping and changing.
I went from a 12.2hh loan pony to a 15hh Arab at 11, because my parents wanted something that would last me. They weren't horsey and our only experience as owners was with the loan pony, so they didn't want to buy me a horse and have me grow out of it after a few years. We were actually aiming for something between 14 and 14.2hh, even though I was so small and skinny I'd probably have been best on a 13.2hh for another year or two, but we were hindered by the fact that I was adamant I wanted an Arab and there wasn't a huge amount of choice. We saw a few at 14.2hh and were running out of ones to look at when my mum suggested we went to see the 15hh mare - the rest is history and we still own her 10 years later :D. On the plus side, I never had the upset of growing out of a much beloved pony, but on the downside I really was overhorsed for a while there!
 
I was 11 when I got a 14.2hh, and sister was on a 14hh (just- but he was very wide!) cob at 11. She got a proper 14.2hh when she was 13 and stayed on her until she was nearly 16.
 
My daughter was always tall for her age, and outgrew the 11.2 SecA when she was about 9 1/2 - knocked down poles with HER feet not the pony as she'd got confident at 2ft 3 but couldn't jump higher without faults! We then went straight to a 14h which she's still on aged 12 and 5ft 6 tall. I'm same height and can ride him too without looking too ridiculous. He's quite deep githed so hides her longish legs quite well, which is another factor to take into account. She's also got a slim 13.2 which she can still ride as well, but looks a little tall for him.
