Hi there, I thought I should share my experiance today of viewing a horse.
Bit of background info: My friend lost all her confidence about a year ago due to a nasty fall and I've been helping her to get her confidence back. She now feels ready to look into buying a horse that is nice and quiet that she can have a plod around on while she is gaining her confidence.
Anyway she saw an ad for a 10 year old cob that was described as nice a quiet boy and good for a novice. The photos looked good so she decided she wanted to view it. She took me along as I was the one to get her confidence up and I was more than happy to go with her. We phoned the owner and arranged to see the horse today, so me and my friend travelled for half an hour to view the horse. When we got there we met the owner and she showed us the little cob. Well dirty was an understatement! It was filthy and caked head to foot in mud but we didn't say anything. The owner went off to grab the tack and while she was gone I brushed off some of the dry dirty with my hand so that he was at least a bit more comfortable when we put the saddle on. The owner came back and just had a bridle... She popped the bridle on and said he was ready to go. I asked her where was the saddle and her reply was 'its gone mouldy so you can't use it!' Well that didn't give the best impression in the world! But the cob was such a sweetheart on the ground I gave the benefit of the doubt and said I would ride it bareback for today. I got on and instantly he was unhappy. I asked for trot and he exploded into a bucking and rearing frenzy which I am proud to say I managed to stay on!! As soon as he finished I got off gave him a pat and said to the owner 'thank you very much but he's not what we are looking for.' We then gave him one last pat got in the car and drove as quickly as we could out of there!
That was definatly a more exciting viewing than I hoped for... Here's hoping the rest go slightly better!
