Its a Friday night and I am home alone bored so why not!

What are you doing with your 5 year olds, what are your aims with them etc

Mine started showjumping in April. He has qualified the BN and Discovery regionals 2014. He qualified some amateur 2nd rounds 2013. Hes qualified Blue Chip Novice 2014 and has started collecting his Newcomers for next year.

Here are some pictures IF I can get them to work :)

Well mine isn't 5 she's 7, and I have a vague plan, now I've moved yards, of borrowing a friends school that I can hack too and working on the schooling and jumping we were doing over summer, she's got a bit sloppy over autumn. And maybe might take her to a hunt meet at the end of the season, they have one within hacking distance. If I ever sort out taking my trailer test I would like to do some xc schooling and aim for mini ODEs... we dream small :) Yours looks like he's going really well

Wish mine was at that stage! I am planning on 're-backing' as it all went a bit wrong earlier this year. He's only 4 but will be 5 in May and I really hope to be back riding him next year. Have not sat on him since May/June since I ended up in A&E! :)

My aim was just go start introducing him to comps and I am very pleased to say it was a huge success! he is now hunting (and rather good!!) and doing UASJ until the new year when I will affiliate him with BSJA to get ready for the eventing season. My aims for next year is to try and qualify for the badminton grassroots final 2015 when he is 7...watch this space!

My 5 year old is definitely no where near as far on as you guys

Ive spent this year getting him going, schooling and started jumping.
Hes been to a few shows and jumped 55cm courses, and done a few intro dressage tests.

Next year, I hope to go up to maybe 75cm, plus prelim dressage and maybe go xc schooling :)

Love the pictures :)

It sounds like everyone is doing really well.

My 7 year old after a year off ridden work has finally learnt to stop attempting to deck me every two minutes & we've even reintroduced hacking. I grant you, we are only walking & trotting at the moment with about absolutely no grace or elegance (double whammy is I ride in a rope halter - I can't even go for the 'posh gear and no idea' matchy matchy look to score a few elegance points :D ) but as he was theoretically for sale for about 50p this time last year, it's a huge improvement & I'm over the moon with him. If people ask his age, I try to take as many years off as possible, still however!

Next year: I'd like to keep on building the relationship we have now, reintroduce canter work & maybe jumping under saddle (he loves online jumping), teach him to load consistently to take him to a few lessons away from home & clinics. Not much for most people, but it would be great achievement for us :)

ouch poor you. :( I had horse last year that put me in hospital. My new horse cut his leg to bone 10 days after I bought him, after 8 weeks off rehab he threw splint had stone bruise and is just restarting after saddle check as hes grown so much. We actually think hes either very late foal for 5 yr old or passported a year older. Im in no rush so will hack for few weeks then restart schooling but he works in nice outline and is soft in the hand so Ill just take it gently .:D

My 5 yo is like a 4 yo! Bought him from the field in August and started from scratch.. he schools beautifully but can be a real nappy b*gger when he wants! He has jumped twice (lack of time on my part) and was great but still a huge way to go before he would be ready to go show jumping. Aim is to get him out to some local dressage in the new year!

Duke has been hacking out nicely with the gang for a while now. He's proving very honest popping little natural obstacles too. He is a little attached to his herd, so I've been taking him out on his own quite often. I don't want a napper! He's entire, so when he feels alone he's quite noisy - mostly at cows :/

Broke him to drive over the summer. He's going well, but needs more work to get him really putting his back into it. He's still not quite bullish enough up steep hills. Occasionally still runs out of steam, turns around and gives me that 'you're kidding, right?' look.

He's so quiet I keep having to refrain from putting novices on him - he'd look after them fine, but he's still very young, and I don't want him picking up any bad habits.

Oh dear I definitely baby mine! She does hack out alone or in company at all paces, few gates issues but stands like a rock if I have to get off and on. Schooling she's coming on nicely considering most of the time I'm playing catch up to her natural talent! Jumping. ......rubbish :-( I don't jump, so my niece has that job when she is back from uni, but my mare is proving quite challenging in this respect, she is dressage lines rather than jumping. Randomly decides even a pole on the ground is going to kill her, so that is on the back burner till new year and just working on despooking with poles/wings etc.

No comps yet as had no transport, but just sorted that issue so hoping to crack on next year as a 6 year old.

Mine is currently practicing leading. I hope by next year, I will be able to take her out showing (BIG ambition, probably won't happen) :p
