Hiya, this might be a long and confusing one but im in a bit of dilema

I hurt my knee 2 weeks ago and i have to keep it in a splint for quite awhile. I am not in any pain and can lift it, walk on it etc as normal apart from not bending it which i can but its gettign more and more stiff the longer i keep it in the splint

Anyway what do you think my chances are of being able to go to pony club camp 2 weeks after i get the splint taken off? I really want to go because iv already missed so many things like the area SJ and I was really looking forward to it.
I will wear a support that will be hinged and is the one recommended by the docs.
Also how quickly would a quite fit cob lose his fitness? He will have had 4 weeks in the field, being ridden by Embob_4 atleast once a week for 30mins schooling which so far hasnt even got him puffing. And hopefully if i can pursuade parents, he will be hacked by me in walk over the next two to three weeks for as long as i feel he needs. He will then have 2 weeks (hopefully) when i can ride him properly before camp.
(before hand he could hack for 1h30mins in trot up and down hill with a bit of canter schooling in sloping fields without tiring to much).
Phew that was confusing ! hope you can make sense of it and put my mind at rest that all will be fine

Thankies!

You should probably check with your doctor when you have the splint taken off, but I don't see why you shouldn't be able to go. Worst case scenario, you have to end up sitting out on some of the activities - at least you'll still be there having fun with your friends!

All the docs have said that it was unlikely that i would be able to, but they also said i shoudl be in a lot of pain (when im in none) and that i shoudlnt be able to lift it etc so they are just takign the "average" person recovery time:( when in my opinion i was fine to continue as normal maybe with just a support. But they are the experts

I have no idea about you and wouldn't like to comment, but I think your horse will be fine. If he is turned out he will be maintaining a base level of fitness and if you can hack in walk - really marching out up and down hills - that should keep the fitness on him.

check with the pony club first too- I know the one I worked at for a few summer (some years ago) would not allow those with on going injury due to the risks to their insurance!
