my insurance has shot up on my 306 so iv decided that id rather pay the extra and have a 4x4 to tow and for the horses. im looking at getting a terrano. nothing special, just a SWB diesel. i dont have a trailer yet but have lots i can borrow.
what is the fuel consumption like?
what are they like to tow on the motorway?
what is the tax on them?
anything else to help me make my decision would be great. i only want a SWB 4X4 as il only be towing one at a time, its very unlikely il be taking both of them anywhere at the same time.
i looked into getting a discovery but dont think i could face it when the mot comes round!

I have owned 2 terranos (still do) a long wheel base and now a short wheel base and both are fine for towing, although from a personal point of view I thought the long wheel base was better (no particular reason probably just me and my driving!). The tax is £245 for 12 month (deep joy just had the renewal through) but my insurance is reasonable. I think they are a bit juicy on the diesel tho, especially on short trips, but that said I don't have anything to compare it against, I thought I wanted a Discovery but find them too "big" somehow. My terrano came into it's own last winter with all the snow and I find it easy to drive.

Cant remember about the tax but we pulled with one for a few years no problem. Didnt take it on the motorway much (mainly country roads round us!) but did go 10 hours all the way to a competition in England once easily. Its far better on diesal than our new towing vehicle - a Touareg!
