Sorry I'm sure everyone is bored of this topic but...

The price of hay in Frosburys has hit £6.50 for a small bale! :-o

I'm actually feeding horsehage at the moment as its working out cheaper.

But we still have fairly decent grass at the moment.

Tried a guy I was getting hay from 18 months ago (£20 for a big square bale) now asking for £35 for a square bale a third of the size. Most places only selling to their existing customers.

Any one have any ideas?

I might have to turn him away for the winter somewhere where there is enough grass.. running out of ideas!

Thanks

Its around, you just have to look for it. My hay has cost me £2 a bale from round the corner.
Most people have managed a 2nd or even 3rd cut now, so all this "there is not going to be enough hay" rubbish is exactly that.....rubbish!
Have you tried crossways? They are always quite reasonable, and delivery for free too.

Thanks, I held off buying in loads at silly prices earlier in the year in the hope that as you say the second/ third cuts would be good...

I don't know Crossways where is that?

We're having the same problem. Rokers are at £6.20 a bale (heavey ones) they said they were getting cheaper this week though!!!

Where is Crossways??

I too think they could easily get another cut.. i wouldn't buy bulk just yet.

I've noticed a few people doing extra cuts of haylage (Dorking), so don't panic just yet. Can't help with supplier, though, as I bought mine off the field in June.

We got ours back in July from 3 different suppliers. We actually asked 5 different suppliers to bring 80-100 big bales each, working on the basis that it doesn't always materialise. The good thing is we've got enough until July 2011 for 40+ horses, unfortunately it cost £5k
