I have recently broken my 4yr old and wanted to find the best bit for her. She was broken in a loose ring snaffle but found a little steering help was needed so changed to a full cheek snaffle but she now seems to ve trying to avoid the bit at times by putting her head between her knees. Any suggestions?
Sorry I posted last week but only had a couple of replies so could do with a little more suggestions please! Thanks
Anita

you could try a full cheek kk or neue schule bit, they will be quite soft and the metal and lozenge will encourage acceptance but the cheeks will help with steering.
or a loose ring kk or NS if he prefers a loose ring?

What sort of mouthpiece is your full cheek snaffle - it could be that? Maybe a hanging cheek.

A thin mouth, french link cheek snaffle without leather loops on the cheek pieces. Certainly wouldnt go for anything with poll pressure.

I used a loose ring Neue Shule with lozenge on mine and found it to be fantastic. Don't go down the happy mouth route as this caused the most horrendous friction burn on her mouth i have ever seen! good luck

The NS bits have the Salox mouthpiece which is warmer....... I'd speak to Heather at NS and take it from there.... Have just bought the team up bit and the results are amazing!

Another vote for Neue Schule bits. Changed my older horse out of his Myler and he is MUCH better in the NS. I was so impressed that the youngsters are all in the NS with lozenge bit.

All start with a full cheeks to help with the steering and then either go in a loose ring (the majority) or an eggbut once there is minimal chance of the bit being pulled through their mouth. Good luck with your youngster.

Eggs - they are fantastic aren't they!!!! I also changed from the Myler Comfort Snaffle and I've now got a totally different horse on my hands, so much happier now - I dont think I would ever use any other bit on this horse or any that I may get in the future!
