What are the chances of her coming right?

My horse was hit by a car 3 weeks ago - and herewith a quotation from the veterinary report:
"Ultrasonic evaluation was carried out under tranquillisation. An elliptical area of fibrosis of the muscle was evident beneath the area of injury with markedly increased density of fiberous tissue compared with a similar area of the left leg"

The area affected is the mid 1/3 of the right hind semi-tendonosis muscle. Initially my mare was 8/10ths lame - and for the last 2 weeks she has remained 2/10ths lame on field rest.

My mare was due to affiliate BSJA/BD this winter.

Can anyone give me a hunch as to where they think we may end up?

My vet has been very good - but does not really want to comment until he re-scans in the New Year. Meanwhile she is on field rest in the hope that she will go sound.
 
Probably not what you want to hear but the answer is "how long is a piece of strung...?". To go from that level of lameness to 2/10 lame in 3 weeks is pretty good going. My boy did a tendon 5 months ago, was 6-7/10 lame and two weeks later was 1-2/10 lame. Two months later was sound and after three months of gradual work we are almost back to full work - touch wood and whistle!! I have also been advised to work towards where I was before so progress back to jumping etc....(think this will be a bit longer as will prob be so paranoid about reinjury). I would say you have every reason to be optimistic as the amount of improvement that has already occured is a really good sign. Stay positive as that is what will keep you going over the horrible winter months and not being able to ride etc. You will hear lots of horror stories but there are also some real positive ones too so keep your chin up. Not really advice but hope this may give you some light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck and all the best.
 
I have no idea Furryears but I want to say how sorry I am to read of this horrendous incident. I do hope your mare comes right in the end - she is probably very lucky to be alive.

I am new to this forum and joined today because I want to be able to help the likes of your mare.

I can not stress enough about the products I use for our racehorses and believe you me we have had some horrific incidents to deal with!

Your mare i would suggest she goes on Nutrawound for 1mth. We had a filly that fell on the road and had terrible injuries like yours. Put her on this forumla and vets could not believe her rapid recovery! Try it!

So sorry to hear your horse was hit by a car. The good news is I think there's a good chance of coming right after rest. Fingers crossed.

I know this isnt the original post but I am dealing with recovery of tendon injury .What was the diagnosis of your scan my horse had a 10% tear After 10 weeks rest we are walking out.I will start trotting him next week but Im a bit worried about reinjury.He was never lame or so slightly you couldnt notice but had swelling expected from tendon so I had him scanned.I will probably wait another month before we do any canter work if everything goes ok.Did you follow a similiar plan of action.Thanks
