two New Forest ponies kept at the same small livery yard (10 stables) being related?

Just discovered that my 25 year old has the same Great Grandsire as the 9 year old at the yard.

Not sure if this would be a common occurance due to the number of Forest ponies bred every year!

My TB shares a GGS with a TB on the yard. I'd say it's quite usual to find commonalities going back into great grand sires in say TBs and British Riding Ponies but I don't know much about New Forest gene pools.

We bought two Fjords from different places, and they turned out to be closely related. We were stunned at the coincidence!

It suprised both of us mainly due to the 14 year age gap between the two!
