what steps would you take to become a course builder? ive contacted my local BS rep and she gave me a address for someone not even in my area!
has anyone done this and how long does it take, and whats costs ect.

My partner works at Solihull Riding Club and he knows all the decent course builders who build there, and we have a friend who has gone down the course building route too so and she has assisted building show jump courses at some large competitions/venues. It is a long hard slog and many weekends/evenings are given up along the way but I have emailed her this link and hopefully she might be able to help you. x

First stage is to contact BS.
You will be assigned to an experienced course builder who will guide and train you, generally on the job at comps.
As you gain experience you will be allowed to plan and build courses but always under the watchful eye of the experienced builder.
Once ready I believe there is a competenct test which has to be passed (theory and practical). Only then do you become an assistant course builder.
Friend of mine has been down this route. Takes a lot of dedication and a great many weekends. Total elapsed time for him was around 2.5 years from start to assitant builder qualification.
Its not a quick or easy process

It certainly would be

You could get a BS course builder to do some training sessions so you learn the basics with regard to distances, flow of track, fence construction etc. The threshold series have a very good book called 'Basic Course Building' by the former international course builder Maureen Somers - who I was lucky enough to have some training with before she retired.
