I have recently become the proud owner of a lovely two year old cob :)

I am a bit unsure what to feed him as I've always had hard to keep horses so he is a bit of a shock to the system!

He's currently on 400g spillers balancer and a double handful of chaff with 24/7 turnout with a grazing muzzle on for 10 hours of the day. He is looking a bit too well and I don't want him to get fat..

I'm considering switching to a powdered vitamin and mineral supplement to help reduce his calories more, but I'm keen to see what everyone else is doing. Thanks :)

At two years old, I still had my youngster on a youngstock balancer rather than a general balancer.

Also with the grazing muzzle, I believe the thoughts are it is better on or off, not a mixture of both, as they will gorge when it ocmes off and end up eating the same amount as if it was off all of the time (when out 24/7).

You cant leave it on 24/7. Is electric fencing a possibility? At two I changed my youngster to a regular diet, ie unmolassed beet to carry pro balance. The Suregrow didnt seem to be working for his feet, which were growing very flat.

The post says he only wears the grazing muzzle for 10 hours a day not all the time, he has access to grass 24/7 maybe I didn't make myself very clear. But he is in a bit which is electric fenced too so he can't gorge on his whole field.
