what are your pet riding hates....?

People that shout and yell at their horses either when they are off or on them, can't stand it.

Draw reins, flapping legs, trainers when riding, bobbing heads in sitting trot, loose ring bits that are not wide enough, hackers that don't say thankyou to you for slowing down.

A big hate is people that buy horses/ponies stick them in a field, never bother with them.

Can I just ask what peoples beef is with Draw Reins? Ok yes alot of the time they are used incorrectly but in the right hands they are fantastic! My TB is currently getting a couple of days in them more for his trot work than anything else.

Competitive parents and kids who don't appreciate their good fortune that mummy and daddy could afford to buy them a beautiful animal..... I was that kid that hung around riding schools doing odd jobs and snatching a ride here and there on peoples ponies that they either did not have the time for or were scared of. Now nearly 50yrs old and I have been the proud owner of two cobs for a good few years, and never take a minute with them for granted. Youth is wasted on the young so they say.

i hate when riders use their whips to signel right or just cut straight into the middle to turn right without even looking
also riders in trainers

kids which which are over horsed

People who are too confident of their ability.
People who ride without hats.
People who think that being a good rider equates to being able to jump high.
People who think endurance isn't really a competition but a nice easy long hack- get your horse fit and then we'll talk.
People who do absoloutely nothing with their horse then go and compete it in every class at shows.
People who lies on their horse's neck with their hands by the horse's ears over jumps, I'm sorry but surely you shouldn't physically be led on the neck?!

Trotting on the wrong diagonal
People who don't appreciate theyre horses
People who rush their horses
People who don't give their horses days off
People who only have horses to work and work them constantly
People who canter on the wrong lead when they think they are on the correct lead

People who don't wear hi-viz, just seems irresponsible, I know accidents can still happen, but give your horse and other road users a chance at least.

People who don't wear hats. I know it's their own business, but it just bugs me.

Those who have horses as a status symbol or don't appreciate their horses. I was lucky to have a pony from a young age, but we struggled to afford her and I was taught from an early age that riding is the bit you do after everything else (ie not the only reason to have a horse).

The use of gadets- if they are used incorrectly or used with no knowledge of what they are for.

I'm sure I'll think of more, but have angered up my blood enough for now.

People who moan and whinge about other peoples riding skills, or lack of.
My pet hate?
Snooty girls who don't thank you for opening gates, or for slowing down in a car for them.
Said girls then ride two abreast up narrow lanes without looking behind them to check for cars, ether that or, they know you are there, and are doing it to wind you up!
