I've used one and she was fine! The only reason I didn't use her again was because she wasn't as sympathetic as my usual (male) farrier to my horse's stiff back leg. Nothing to do with whether she was female or not though.
HAving seen male farriers of variety of ages, builds and personalities, I don't think that gender is really an issue....
There was a female farrier training with the farriers I use and there was no difference between her and the other apprentices. We only stopped using her when she moved out of the area about a year after qualifying.
My Auntie is a farrier and is the best in the area (she lives in USA) - she told me that even though lots of people use her because they feel she does such a great job, lots of her female clients feel more comfortable around her than they do around the male farriers in that area, and she has become good friends to lots of them and an agony aunt to many more!! I don't think gender affects how skilled a farrier is, so it's down to who is the best choice for your horse, as well as taking into account the rapport you have with them, because ultimately you need to be able to have open communication with them about what is best for your horse.
Never met one, I don't even know of any in our area - but good on them taking on a job which for some reason seems to be predominantly men - one up for us girls
Wouldn't make any difference to me tbh, I go on how they are with the horse and how they shoe/trim. The sex of the farrier really doesn't come into it.
I dont mean it in a 'sexsist' way! Its just round here ive never met one. And am thinking of doing it. As there just seems such a big demand for farriers were ever you are. For some reason horsey people dont seem to know what a credit crunch is and keep multiplying there horses! I want to work with horses but not the teaching part of it (instructor) and as for being a vet i dont like the idea of blood and broken bones lol! And so i thought farrier; for a girl im quite strong take after my mother and i just found out what my farrier was making the other day so you know that could of maybe incouraged me a little! haha!
