Ours are on straw, but i'm wondering wether i should swap to shavings (mainly because of me - as i struggle with the straw due to allergies!)

(also sorry, but how much do you pay for a shavings bale?)

thankyou

We use shavings, much easier to muck out than straw & soak up any pee easier. Shaving prices vary, from £5.50-£6 per bale depending on type at the suppliers. We have a local wood yard that do bags of shavings as well but I don't know their prices.

I got given a bag of Bliss to try and was very impressed! Lovely bedding and I loved the smell of it. I think I'm converted and am going to buy a pallet when my horse comes in for the winter.

Shavings seem to have shot up in price round here, and are difficult to get hold of.

I use easibed, as its the most dust free stuff Ive tried. At £7 a bale its not cheap, but with the rubber matting I only use 1-2 bales a week.

Was on straw, then when got rubber mats went on to shavings, found it too expensive so tried Nedzbed as supposed to be more absorbent, even more expensive so now back on good old straw

Used to use wood shavings but now they are all on a mixture of aquamax and flax, semi deep litter and wet patched once a week (our stables are 18x20 ft - HUGE but on chalk floors so most drains away. Expensive to initally make the beds up now its just one week aquamax one week flax- sometimes they only need a half bale "freshener" and droppings out 3/4 times a day.)
I love straw but too labour intensive and tricky to dispose of!

I used shavings for years until I moved to a new yard who insisted on shavings. I am really impressed with the ease and cleanliness of it all. I wouldn't go back!

I use either Hunter or Wooburn shavings at 6 pounds per bale and it lasts me about 2 weeks.

Our shavings have shot up in price and cant get decent ones so looked into other bedding.

We are no converted to easibed and love it

(with rubber mats)

Used to use paper, I loved it but only because I grew up with my ponies on paper so was used to it. Maiden is now on straw and although I muck out straw at work, they are on rubber mats too so it's not bad - Maiden is on concrete and straw + concrete + my horse do not mix well!! I'd get something else but straw is £1/bale so until I get some money I will have to stick with it!

I use rubber mats and shavings. Think they retail between £5.50 and £6.00 depending where in country you are.
I use 1 bale a week in summer and between 2 & 3 in winter.

I use to use straw but when moved horse to different yard everyone there used shavings so now he has them...he seems happy enough with it.

I use Easibed mixed with Shavings as my boy has a dust allergy, the shavings are about £6.20 and Easibed £7.15..
