What best for a small but deep open wound?

Poor pony, has a nasty hole in its nose, between the nostrils, but a bit lower down, so not easy to spot at a casual glance.

It is either a cut from getting her nose caught on something, or it might have been a thorn that festered and has now burst, leaving a hole about the size of a 5p coin, but it is quite deep. I washed it out with saline solution and have various ointments, but pony leaps backwards with sprays.

Best ointment?
