My 5 yo is in a Myler low port comfort snaffle but I'm thinking of trying something else as she is chomping on it and it has been suggested that maybe it is giving a little too much tongue pressure.

She doesn't do well in a french link and I'm not keen on the nutcracker action of a regular jointed snaffle.

I just wonder what bit you usually ride your youngsters in?

There are so many different bits out there, it's just interesting to know what everyone uses and might give me some ideas of what to try.

Admittedly I haven't used a french link since she was started and then it was with cheek pieces, so maybe a loose ring version is a thought. Thank you.

I use a loose-ring single-jointed snaffle. My mare was better in a flexi-mouth material bit, but then chewed it, so I'm persevering with a normal stainless steel one now

If you can believe it I bought my horse as a 4 yr old and when he came to me he had a magennis snaffle! I too used a Myler Low Port and he went ok in it - much better than he'd gone in the magennis obviously - however, my instructor suggested I try a KK ultra and he seems much happier. He's older now but I do wish I'd swapped it sooner than I did.
I'm lucky his poor mouth wasn't ruined!

Great food for thought (after the dinner thread I've got food on the brain!

). I'll look into your suggestions.

Thank you so much.

I use a fixed ring french link snaffle, my youngster chomps on his bit as well but only when first put in, once we start schooling / riding he stops, everything he can get hold of and put in his mouth and chomp on he will and his teeth have been checked and are fine so I think with him it is just a baby thing.

Neue Scheule Correction (or schooling, I forget which) at the moment. Not BD legal but I wanted to try him in something with tounge relief for a bit.

Normally a lozengey french link in a warm metal though.

Thick KK with lozenge and loose ring. Started him in straight bar happy mouth but didn't like it (no steering!!!) now in this and loves it at the mo. (rising 4 by the way!!)

Mine goes really well in a happy mouth full cheek snaffle with revolving barrel. Bit is completly flexi and he can't get hold or hang to one side.
