Been riding her in a french link and she is forever chomping on it, doesnt seem particulary happy with it, she is an ex polo pony, isnt strong, i just want to find a bit that she likes.

What do you ride yours in? Need an idea so i can try some others out.
My french link isnt massively chunky but its def chunkier than some others, maybe she needs a thinner bit?

Someone told me what the tb rehabilation centre uses to retrain them but i cant remember now the name of the bit.

Mine went best/was happiest in his Myler comfort snaffle with hooks which gave me slightly more braking power but tbh he was always polite and i didnt need to pull in it. I think he liked the thinner mouth piece and the fact there was no nutcracker action.

I have a single jointed fulmer snaffle that he seems to like, he isn't too fussy although doesn't like happy mouth bits.

This bit i have the best brakes in, he also goes nicely in the KK sprenger correction bit.

My elderly TB, when not bitless, is ridden in a loose ring french link with a thin mouthpiece - he hated the thick mouthpiece and my mare is a single joint loose ring snaffle. I tried her in a french link but she hated it - she's much happier in a single jointed one!!

NS verbindend, seems very content with it, previosly in a FL full cheek, before then (with owner) was in a full cheek single joint.

Our boy is anglo arab so although not strictly thoroughbred is very much of that type. We have recently changed fom a french link snaffle to an eggbut snaffle with a round copper lozenge. We looked at the verbindend but thought it too chunky for his small shallow mouth. He really likes the lozenge and is going really well in it.

Mine has a small mouth and big tongue so not alot of space for the bit.

Started with a bog standard french link and he was fussy in this.
Next tried a Neue Schule Starter which he was much better in but wasn't one of the thinner mouth pieces and you could see his tongue bulging out the side.

Emailed Neue Schule and they suggested a team up with a 12mm mouthpiece, but they were having problems with their email and took ages to answer and in the meantime got a Myler comfort.

Seem much happier in that as it is alot thinner than the previous bit, still a little bit of tongue pokes out but he isn't fussy.

I will probably keep an eye out for a team up though and buy it if I see one secondhand.

Mine was in a eggbut snaffle but found it wasn't giving him much room in his mouth so changed to a thinner French link which he loves :) it always surprises me how tb's tend to prefer the simpler bits and go better in them while the cobbier types seem to need something a bit more complicated. *just my experience :p *

My older TB is ridden in a loose ring, french link with a thin mouthpiece. My 5yr old is ridden in a Myler Comfort Snaffle, before this he was in a normal fulmer, which he hated :)

One of mine is in a NS eggbutt snaffle, tried the starter bit on him and he hated it! Think it moved too much for his liking, he's not one to readily accept the contact so I tried him in the bit I actually bought for the other horse! Said other horse was in a loose ring, German silver lozenge snaffle, quite a thin one as he doesn't like too much in his mouth, but he's very recently gone off bits altogether and I'm not sure why. He has got a weird mouth problem so that may have worsened, so he's now got a hackamore (and no steering!!), the part thoroughbred part Arab (cheating I know!) is in a waterford, due to having a low palate.

I have an ex polo pony - she hated a french link, kept throwing her head in the air, but I now ride her in a Neue Schule trans angled lozenge and she stopped almost immediately. She's now starting to bring her head down.

As polo ponies seem to be ridden pretty much strapped down I don't use a martingale or even a noseband and like yours she has a very soft mouth.

Mine is in a fuller French link snaffle, he seems to like this best.

My last TB liked an eggbutt hollowmouth snaffle best.

Both horses really hate my expensive Sprenger KK loose ring lozenge bit! Both were really gobby in it, strange ponies!

My mums TB likes his loose ring, French link best.

I find they can be quite fussy even with snaffles as to which cheek and mouthpiece they prefer so it can take some experimenting!

French link loose ring snaffle. He's quite happy in it and I haven't got the money to fork out for all these expensive bits. £175 for a piece of metal.
