I'm asking because at the weekend I saw 3 different riders, riding in draw reins, one in a snaffle (which is what I thought it should be used with), one in a double bridle- draw reins through the bridoon and the last was in a dutch gag- with the draw reins through the second ring (one down from the big ring) which is where the riders riders were.
I thought you shouldn't use them with any thing other than a snaffle?

Personally if and when (which is not very often) I use draw reins it would be with a snaffle. Saying that I have seen them used with a double on the bridoon. IMO to use them on a dutch gag on anything other than the big main ring would be harsh.

Would imagine if everything was done by the "BHS book" then yes a snaffle would be correct. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Have used them on a snaffle.. and the snaffle part of a dutch gag.

TBH the working behind them would surely be odd if used on the 2nd ring.. and interfere when you used the normal reins?

I would never use draw reins... What's the point of forcing your horse into an outline, when you can achieve the same result with correct riding? (please note I Am Not accusing anyone on here of not riding correctly)
