What bit me?

Horse riders are no stranger to being bitten by various bugs and such so I was wondering if anyone knew what could have bitten me?

I have two bites on my lower leg that look TERRIBLE. They seem to be looking worse not better.
They originally started off very itchy but no marks, then marks and even more itchy (if possible!!) one turned into a very dark red colour the size of a 2p coin (maybe slightly bigger) and the other (which is very close to the first) is even darker red but only size of a 5p or so...A few days on and they no longer particularly itch by my gosh every time I catch sight of them I'm surprised by how they look worse than they did originally!

No cause for alarm or anything like that - i'm pretty sure whatever bit me was relatively harmless (aside from the horrid itching and terrible looking leg!), i'm just curious to find out what it was...mainly so I can avoid in the future!

Anyone have experience of a bite like this?

2 puncture marks close together sound's like a spider bite.

*Shudder*
I hate spiders D: Do any particular types bite? (I know nothing about them)

I don't seem to be able to find any point of the bite - weirdly. Originally, I had two raised lumps, one slightly bigger than the other but they went down, then I had a large (think top of a cup) size red slightly raised area around where the larger lump was but didn't notice the same for the smaller lump. Now no lumps and no point at which a bite looks to have occured, just angry redness :s I'll have to try and get a picture when I have my phone handy.

No experience of anything like that! One glimpse of a potentially bitey/stingy/dangerous looking insect and I run away!

I was once told that all spiders bite but many of the smaller species do not generally have fangs strong enough to pierce our skin but there are exceptions and everyone can react differently? (obviously don't mean known highly venomous species!) My OH was bitten by a spider he was carrying out of house to garden, it stung at the time but no reaction. Years ago a friend put their hand in their pocket, yelped and teeny spider was on finger, well the finger was like a sausage in about half an hour!

Now if I see a spider/creepy crawley in the house I just go and get Mayhem (one of my ferrets) and she eats them for me (the dog was sacked as he stalks them for about 10 mins, then just stands wagging his tail at them)

Could it maybe be 2 mozzie bites?

Could be mosquito? If mosquitoes are disturbed they will try and bite again in a similar spot and you will end up with 2 or more bites close together. The more you itch them the more the irritation from their anaesthetic gets into your body and makes the bite worse. If there was a picture I could probably tell you? I did a lot of work with mosquitoes! Lol :)

I have something similar on my leg in the back of my knee, two really itchy red lumps with a small gap between them. Its come up with a dark bruise connecting them and going down the back of my leg which is weird. I have no idea what it was but it was inside my trousers when I put them on. Nothing usuful to add, but I can confirm after a few days the itchy is gone! lumps and bruise remain though :(

Thanks guys - don't think it's a mozzie as i've been bitten by them before and not had such a bad reaction :s But you never know! I could randomly have become allergic or similar.

There's no bullseye, it literally just looks like 2 red bruises without any point of contact visible from when the bug/spider bit me. You also can't feel anything - it all feels the same now (no raised bits, just like running my hand over other parts of my leg, you can't feel anything but can only see the bruising).

Huskydamage - This sounds exactly like mine D: I'm pretty sure it was inside my jodhs when I put them on a week or so ago now :( Only thing about yours is the lumps remain whereas mine went away with the itchiness.

False widow spider? UK's only venomous spider and the bite is said to be painful and very itchy. Some people react really badly to them, and some go on to develop quite serious complications. They're not aggressive - but they do hide in clothing.

Sounds like the bite may be infected, would be wise to let the doctor have a look. I once ended up with a very crook knee following a simple mozzie bite. Week off work and antibiotics, doc said it depends on what the mozzie had previously snacked on.

A tip for dealing with bites, have on hand a pot stuffed full with cottonwool balls soaked in white vinegar. When bitten scrub the bite area with the white vinegar, itching goes really fast. I keep one in my grooming kit, we have aggressive sand flies at the stables, one in the car and one at home. Works really well.

clegg bite?

Had a very nasty one on my shoulder, came up like a bruise and very red and there was a lump that went down the next day and was very itchy and sore. Put some anti-bite stuff on and it was fine :)

Oh YEUCH....

I honestly didn't know spiders could bite. I am feeling a lot less charitable to the vast numbers I have currently residing in my house.

Where's my portable Hoover..
