So having never really delved into the world of biting, as have previously always had horses that came happy, i am now confused as to what bit to try.
He came in a Cheltenham gag and a tight grackle, which i believe he was broken in. So have obviously with making him into a nice pc horse for me in mind i have been working on making the transition into a snaffle for flat work, i first tried a single jointed loose ring as thought the mouth piece would be familiar to him. In short he hated it and went like a yak. So i have tried a hanging cheek, and a funny but with a revolving lozenge, but didn't feel it gave clear enough signals to an unschooled baby(had never been in a school until two months ago, he is 5). So i currently have him in a full cheek french link, which whilst he goes pretty well in it, i have the feeling he's not totally happy, so as i have run out of my usual solutions, i am at a loss as had never had a fussy one, so does anybody have any suggestions?
Also am having problems with jumping/hacking bit. The Cheltenham will be saved for hunting as i don't like using it on a daily basis and to be fair he doesn't need it. So i have him in a french link bubble gag, which he also dislikes (spot a theme? oh and its on the second ring down), he tends to really back off the bit opening his mouth and evading even with a flash (only put this on as he came with the mouth opening but after a visit from the dentist, and having a wolf tooth removed i thought he was sorted on this front). Now usually for more brakes this is my usual bit, and if they don't get along with it i find ours have preferred a double, but don't want to use this on an unestablished baby. So again does anybody have any suggestions? i was maybe thinking a vulcanate pelham (with two reins to mainly ride on the snaffle , but am open to ideas
Look forward to hearing your ideals
