Baby horse and sister had a fall jumping the other day in a lesson. He just got his feet in a muddle and face planted and broke the wooden pole on his fetlock on the way down.
Was sound straight after and continued on jumping no problem.

He is a little lame tonight so I'm ringing vet in the morning to see if we can have an xray and check up as we are off to the beach next week with them and I want to make sure he is okay.

He broke the poke basically underneath where a standard woof wear brushing boot would come so I doubt boots would have offered protection but as there are loads on the market I had a thought you wonderful lot might be able to help me.

I use the Eskadron tendon and fetlock boots generally (I use them for flat schooling too). I've also used the JW tendon and fetlock boots when my horse's legs were clipped as I found they didn't slip at all. Then I always use rubber overreach boots on front.

I use veredus now. and any old open front tendons I can find for jumping at home- Mostly bandages for schooling (when it's not wet!) Veredus do a very different style not at all traditional over reach boot which offers a huge amount of protection without bulk.

My mare is very careful and never touches a pole so wears the Le Mieux Stealth XC boots. This is mainly because they're always in the tack box and have better ventilation than her tendon boots so legs don't get as hot. She also wears whatever pair of overreaach boots I can find, usually fluffy Eskadron ones.

I do have a set of lovely brown leather Sabre tendon and fetlock boots but hardly use them due to worrying about overheating her legs :o.

Thanks.

Do any of you jump in pattern wraps?
Or the premier equine combo sport boot?

He broke the pole on the top of his pastern just underneath the fetlock.

Vet is coming out on Monday to check and xray him before his beach holiday.

I use Tri-Zone tendon boots which seem very solid on the part that matters but nicely flexible and lightweight (and airy) for the rest of them. I personally would only tend to jump in something which properly protects the tendon so SJ or XC boots - wraps or "sport" boots in my experience do nothing.
