It seems to be a daily occurrence that I spend at least 20 to 30 minutes a day trying to clean up my 2 boys after they come in from the field. The mud buster and dandy brush are my essential items at the moment, along with a lot of shampoo and bath cleaner for me to get rid of the inevitable mud dust you get covered in.

I have decided that they must change breeding in the winter. The TB has become a HB (Hippobred) and the TB x ID has become a HB x MD (Hippobred x Mud Draught) and this is why they enjoy getting plastered every day.

So what breed does your horse/pony become in winter?

LOL Yak!!

Big white hairy polar bear or a big white woolly mammouth or yak. Am not sure. But its big hairy, muddy and its full of attitude.

I have, in the field a polar bear (small but perfectly formed!) I also have a 'pony in camoflage' (sp!!) against the hedge it looks like she is part of the hedge - dun. And the 'one with rug', aka brown bear with attitude.
Murphy is beyond words - a muck stained woolly war horse that stinks!!

Scooby doesn't do mud... take his rug off and he's still dazzling white underneath.

(Except for his black patches

) Although I did find a huge clod of mud inside his mane the other day - it wasn't visible from the surface at all, and it had barely left a mark on his actual neck, but because his mane is so thick it was just buried in there so a big clump of it was filthy.

Goodness knows how it got there without getting the rest of him dirty.

I think he's a Heffalump all year round.

I spent a large part of Sunday clipping mine (took longer to wash him down and clean up afterwards!) so he now looks like a horse again. With no offense to welsh section b's (very pretty!) mine was so fluffy he looked like an overgrown one..That was the second clip!!

Candy has turned from Lippizanner x cob to racing fit pure tb. Hacking him yesterday he spent the first 10 minutes leaping like a stag and when I popped him over an 18 inch high log he gave it an extra 1mtre clearance.Today I lunged him and he decided steady canter meant flat out gallop with lots and lots of big bucks and squeals. I guess he is feeling rather too well atm lol.

If you fell off in that snow do you think you would make a snow angel?

Pah, snow angel, she broke my ribs! I was holding her for daughter to get on, Robin had a hissy fit and ran straight over me, face first in the snow, it was so deep I couldn't get my arms down to push myself up! Daughter was crying with laughter so much she was no good.

But yes, good for snow angels, rubbish for snowmen. Sexist snow?!

2 are roughing it out this winter-
my ISH looks like a giant shettie or poss a dartmoor. her legs alone are about 4x wider than normal!i didnt clip her one year when she was not in work and one of my friends asked when i bought the new horse!LOL.

WB filly looks like a scruff bag- prob closely resembling a dartmoor pony.lol

other beast is clean and clipped and sleek looking!

Glad i'm not the only one with wholly mammoths!!!! I am feeling like i have 4 thelwells at the mo,the yard down from me hacks their imaculate sj's out past my yard and fields and they are really nice people,i feel soooooo embarrased when they see my horses,i've just not had time to get any of them clipped,am determined to get it done before it's too late. I always apoligise to them for the state they are in,all are well fed etc they just are covered in mud and have thick thick coats, apart from my TB x mare, she is in a full neck rug and has a vvv fine coat so feels the cold, she isn't looking her best but can just about get away with it!

My grey is on his hols just now so Ive let him get super fuzzy etc. I took his rug off the other day and OMG he looks awful - SO furry and dirty. Hate seeing him like this although he loves it! He looks like a large, gangly connemara.
